Happy World Chocolate Day! Today, Ngununggula in Bowral hosted my Indigenous Chocolate Tasting Guided Visualisation Workshop. Ngununggula means “belonging” in the traditional language of the local Gundungurra First Nations people. And that’s how I felt! Mandaang guwu (thank you) Marietta, Sally and Gallery Staff. Happy NAIDOC Week 2026! 👣 50 Years of Deadly.

In Wiradjuri language: Marambangbilang Dhinadhina Dhinadhina Marramarra.

Marambangbilang means deadly- not dangerous, but outstanding. Exceptional. Alive in the fullest sense. Dhinadhina is twenty. Marramarra is ten. Twenty plus twenty plus ten. Fifty years. The maths of a milestone written in the oldest living language on this continent.

Every footprint on this poster was won by someone who had every reason to stop walking but kept going anyway.

The Day of Mourning. Our mob stood up in Sydney and refused to be invisible. A grandfather and his granddaughter walk Country. That one is mine.

To our allies- this week is yours too. Not to observe. To walk in celebration with us. Our Blak Christmas. 🖤

The next fifty years will be built by all of us, together, on Country.
Marambangbilang- still here, still walking, and we are strong. 🖤💛❤️

This is "The Journey to Deadly" - my personal interpretation of the NAIDOC 2026 theme in Wiradjuri language. Marambangbilang Dhinadhina Dhinadhina Marramarra. Deadly 20 + 20 + 10.

The footprint trail wrapping both sides of this limited-edition ceramic mug traces the path from the 1938 Day of Mourning in Sydney, when we refused to be invisible - through the Wave Hill Walk-Off, the 1967 Referendum, the formation of NADOC, and a quiet personal milestone in 1965: a grandfather and his granddaughter walking Wiradjuri Country... moi 💛

The path ends at 2026. But the walk continues. 👣

Fifty years of NAIDOC were not handed to us. They were carried by organisers, artists and communities who refused to be silenced. The question this National NAIDOC Week is not only how far we've come, it's who carries it next.

That older hand is not letting go. It's passing knowledge forward. For me, that means telling our own stories in our own way. Native botanicals named in language. Country in every bar. An economy built on Culture, not charity.

This NAIDOC Week I want to tell you how my grandad is the inspiration for my NAIDOC offering this year. Grandad was a Wiradjuri man, who knew exactly who he was and where he came from. When I was small he took me out onto Country to gather guwandang - quandong - and I thought we were just walking together.

I didn't know I was being taught something that would one day be pressed into chocolate. 50 Years of Deadly. 'Marambangbilang Dhinadhina Dhinadhina Marramarra'. This is the story behind the Walking On Country Chocolate Bar - the footprints, the botanicals, the Wiradjuri language, and why a chocolate bar can be an act of reclamation.
