Guess what? Every macadamia tree on Earth, no matter where it's growing now, can trace its DNA back to a handful of ancient Australian rainforests.

Not most. Every one.

Before Hawaii, before California, before macadamias sat in bowls at dinner parties around the world, this was a nut of this continent. Gathered, cultivated and known by Aboriginal people for over 60,000 years, long before anyone ever wrote the word "macadamia" down.

That's why I make my Roasted Macadamia with Girri Girri and Mourau (lemon myrtle and mountain pepperberry) by hand. Not because it's a nice snack, but because every bag is a small act of tribute to a tree, a Country, and a people who got here first and knew it best.

The First Nations word I use is Boombera (macadamia nut). I wrote the fuller story a while back, the Dreamtime legend of Baphal and the cockatoo who scattered nuts across a mountain to save a life. Link in the comments, along with where to find the bag itself.

Today the macadamia industry celebrates a nut. I'll be celebrating where it actually came from, and who its Custodians have always been.

Happy National Wattle Day! This is Gossamer Wattle in my picture, picked on Gundungurra Country, from our Ngunggilanha (reciprocity) Native Sensory Garden, in the Southern Highlands. I asked the tree if I could take a spray to share with you, and this is the beauty she gifed me. What are you up to today? We’re all set up at the Women Leaders Institute & UN Women Australia Conference in the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour. Let the Chocoliciousness begin! 💛🍫

Happy World Chocolate Day! Today, Ngununggula in Bowral hosted my Indigenous Chocolate Tasting Guided Visualisation Workshop. Ngununggula means “belonging” in the traditional language of the local Gundungurra First Nations people. And that’s how I felt! Mandaang guwu (thank you) Marietta, Sally and Gallery Staff. Happy NAIDOC Week 2026! 👣 50 Years of Deadly.

In Wiradjuri language: Marambangbilang Dhinadhina Dhinadhina Marramarra.

Marambangbilang means deadly- not dangerous, but outstanding. Exceptional. Alive in the fullest sense. Dhinadhina is twenty. Marramarra is ten. Twenty plus twenty plus ten. Fifty years. The maths of a milestone written in the oldest living language on this continent.

Every footprint on this poster was won by someone who had every reason to stop walking but kept going anyway.

The Day of Mourning. Our mob stood up in Sydney and refused to be invisible. A grandfather and his granddaughter walk Country. That one is mine.

To our allies- this week is yours too. Not to observe. To walk in celebration with us. Our Blak Christmas. 🖤

The next fifty years will be built by all of us, together, on Country.
Marambangbilang- still here, still walking, and we are strong. 🖤💛❤️
