A little bit of a reality check about markets, events, vendors, and the wonderful customers who support them.
Running events in Australia is hard. Really hard.
Finding venues is harder than ever. Finding venues that tick every box—parking, accessibility, facilities, affordability, location, availability—is almost impossible. As event organisers, we're constantly balancing the needs of customers, stallholders, volunteers, charities, venues, and our own vision for what we want an event to be.
There seems to be a perception that event organisers simply book a venue, open the doors, and collect the money.
I can assure you that's not how it works. At Together Event Co, every decision we make comes from a place of integrity. We do our best to keep costs down for stallholders. We invest heavily in advertising because without customers, there is no event. We try to create a fun, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can enjoy their day. And we give back to charities like Care Kits For Kids.
Are we perfect? No. Sometimes parking isn't ideal. Sometimes technology lets us down. Sometimes there are hiccups at the gate. Sometimes things don't go exactly to plan. PS thankyou to the cutomer who helped my sick daughter at the Memorial Hall gate x
But I can honestly say we give it everything we've got to make it an exceptional day!
The sewing community has seen some significant changes recently, and I think it's important that people understand that many organisers are facing challenges they've never faced before.
Despite that, we're here for the long term. We might be small but we are mighty!
We'll hopefully be bringing one major Sewing Destash Market to the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds next year, along with some exciting new projects we're working on behind the scenes.
