A visiting fossicker popped into the shop today. He has been panning some concentrates from the Mount Morgan No 7 Dam GPA the old fashioned way. A very small picker from the Dee River above the Dam... panning is the time proven method of finding gold.
Unfortunately Rockhampton Regional Council is the organisation that decided the Special Conditions that have been imposed on the GPA ( not Department of Mines. )
One being No Gold Panning, the other being no vehicle access for licensed fossickers .
I have a petition available at the shop to hopefully get this changed so that licensed fossickers can drive in and also to allow gold panning.
Being able to access the GPA by vehicle is a safety issue and also an access issue for people with a disability. Being able to pan for gold is just common sense and increases the viability and sustainability of the GPA and gives people a better chance of finding alluvial gold, remember the Mount Morgan District was a hard rock mining and alluvial mining district.

Upgrading the signage on Car-Lyn Mount Morgan. Fossicking & Off Grid Camping .... will be in place by mid next week.
A busy 2026 Winter Fossicking Season ahead.
Fossicking is bringing thousands of visitors to the Mount Morgan District each year. Our District includes Central Queensland's Gold and Gem Fields ....
Mount Chalmers, Cawarrel, Bouldercombe, Struck Oil, Canoona, Mount Morgan, Westwood, Stanwell, Mornish/ Alton Downs, Raglan / Bajool,
Etc. Many people stop in Mount Morgan on the way to and from Clermont and the Gem Fields.
The economic benefit to the region is increasing yearly.

Regarding the recent posts about our beautiful No7 Dam being included in the Queensland State Government SIPS Scheme .. yes there is a minimal cost ...but kids are free and concession card holders get a discount.. you also get access to ALL other SIPS dams etc state wide as part of the scheme.
The water level is at a premium due to recent rain events...when the pipeline from Rockhampton is turned on so we dont use it as our town water supply it should remain at a very high level....and is definitely a major benefit and draw card for Mount Morgan as far as tourism.

Brian Mattschoss See John Steinberger at MMPAD or maybe talk to Graeme Meade . They are heavily involved...from my point of view
It is a good thing.. I looked at the financial statements from the SIPS website...all looks legit. And they do put a fair bit of the money back into re stocking our dam. Already there is a very positive outcome for the town with visitors and locals fishing here due to the previous restocking, fish haven structures !!
I have seen this first hand through the people visiting my shop Mount Morgan Outdoors , asking for advice and buying bait, tackle etc.
The Red Claw are being caught in quantities at the moment...great fun and great feed. !

$ 1 lousy dollar or so per week... less if you are a concession card holders. Free for under 18s. Not even a carton of beer per year to get a consistent restocking program, and great benefits for Mount Morgan .

Gun Safes are finally back in stock !!
I could only source 5 gun , pistol and 7 gun safes. There has been a surge in people getting firearm licences leading to a higher than normal demand. Remember when you " apply " for your firearm license - you tick the box that you have secure storage. This means that you need to have it in place even if awaiting licence approval.
I also have mini recharge mini dehumidifiers for your safe available.
