By removing the suffocating layers, the deceptive stories and distorted truths created over two millennia, we reveal the truth of who Mary Magdalene really was, and what she continues to symbolise.
Far from the myth of prostitution and subservience, Mary is the powerful embodiment of the sacred feminine; the spiritual equal of Jesus and the sacred masculine. She emphasised love and equality; partnership as opposed to hierarchy. She revered the masculine and celebrated and honoured the union of the sexes.

She was a healer and miracle worker, a keeper of the great mysteries. As a midwife and death walker she understood the cycles of life, unafraid of the underworld; steadfast in the understanding and acceptance of life and death and rebirth.

Mary did not need doctrine or dogma and she did not look to the patriarchy or church to relate to God. Nature was her cathedral, her spiritual guide and her greatest teacher. She understood that she was of the earth, not seperate from it, a kinship calling on her to act as guardian and protector of all living beings and elementals.

I am not a practicing Christian. I follow my own inherent values, recognising and engaging with the magic and mystery of life and death, of the beauty and healing balm of nature and of the equality and duality of all things; dark and light, summer and winter, yin and yang, grief and joy, masculine and feminine - all things in equal measure.
And this is why I am so drawn to Mary Magdalene. She is a true reflection of this for me.
Tomorrow on her feast day I will honour all that she embodies and symbolises, acknowledging the great betrayal of her and her teachings and the silencing of the divine feminine. My wish for tomorrow, and all days, is that her story is reclaimed and instilled into the narrative of the collective and in doing so ensure the restoration of balance and harmony for our planet and for humanity.
