I bloody LOVE our F1 Valais Blacknose lambs.

One of my favourite things about the F1s is that you genuinely never know what you're going to get.

They're all 50% Valais Blacknose… but every single one comes out with their own little interpretation of the assignment. 😂

Some have beautiful dark black markings.
Some are soft charcoal or grey.
Some have perfect little eye patches.
Some have spots.
Some have one dark eye and one barely-there smudge.
Some have black knees, little socks, dark noses… and some look like the printer just gave up halfway through.

They're basically little copy + paste versions of a Valais Blacknose… except the ink starts running out and intermittently printing.

And that's exactly why I love them.

The purebreds have that incredible, unmistakable Valais look — but the F1s have this gorgeous little element of surprise. Same genetics behind them, completely different markings, and every lamb is its own tiny masterpiece.

You can stand there at lambing thinking, okay Louis… what have you printed for us this time?

Perfectly imperfect, completely individual and ridiculously bloody cute.

The F1s will forever have a very special place in my heart. 🖤🤍

Well… we knew this little girl was going to steal a few hearts.

Interest in our beautiful Maple has been incredibly high, so we are officially offering her to a new home once she is weaned.

Maple is an F1 Valais Blacknose ewe lamb and has been bottle raised here at Redlands, which means she is ridiculously friendly, loves people and is very accustomed to being handled.

She’s a sweet, confident little girl with a whole lot of personality.

Maple will remain here at Redlands until she is fully weaned and ready to leave her bottle-lamb life behind.

LAMB SHED UPDATE: S**T HAS ESCALATED.

Remember the beautiful new lamb shed we built?

The one with the nice little pens, fresh bedding, automatic waterers and all the thoughtful little details?

Yeah.

It's a fu***ng daycare now.

The sk**ks have FINALLY started producing the skinks and Redlands is currently crawling with tiny, fluffy psychopaths.

We’ve got F1s.
We’ve got F2s.
We’ve got twins.
We've got singles.
We’ve got bottle babies.
We’ve got mums doing an exceptional job.
We’ve got Bridget.

Fu***ng Bridget. 🙄

Every morning I enter the maternity ward like an underqualified nurse on her 19th consecutive shift.

“WHOSE BABY IS THIS?”

“WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING?”

“GET OFF THAT.”

“HAS EVERYONE HAD A BOOB?”

“BRIDGET, I SWEAR TO GOD.”

Meanwhile the lambs are bouncing off the walls, the good mums are quietly questioning their life choices, and the bottle babies have somehow negotiated themselves an all-inclusive indoor accommodation package.

The lamb shed has officially gone from ✨beautiful new farm infrastructure✨ to Redlands Maternity Ward: absolutely no fu***ng vacancies.

But amongst the s**t, bottles, 847 daily head counts and me staring at lamb arseholes to make sure everyone is functioning correctly…

LOOK AT THEM. 😭🥹

These are some of the newest little members of Redlands and we are completely bloody obsessed with every single one of them.

Even Bridget's.

Our little Maple update 🤍

For anyone who's been following along, Maple is one of our bottle babies after Bridget decided motherhood just wasn't for her.

Safe to say... Maple isn't complaining one bit. She's thriving, full of sass, getting bigger every day, and absolutely loving life as an indoor lamb. Between warm bottles, comfy naps and plenty of cuddles, she's living the dream.

She's doing so, so well, and we couldn't be happier with how she's coming along. We have a feeling this little girl is going to have everyone wrapped around her tiny hoof.

Sorry, Bridget... but Maple has lodged a formal complaint with management and has officially upgraded to the all-inclusive package. Unlimited room service, central heating, and a 24/7 butler with warm bottles. We'd say she's winning.
