Good talking point....but, let's just get out and have some fun !

One of the most curious aspects of surfing is talking about the size of waves. There are lots of filters in peoples minds in terms of ability and or experience, or exposure to other places and cultures. For some reason many surfers deliberately talk down wave size, but there is also a question of perspective. There is a funny conversation in Colin Turners "Legend Of Bells" video where Claw and Yatey are talking about the size of waves at Bells. "This guy from up north was calling Bells 12 foot, (Claw said) so I asked him if that wave was breaking at his local what would he be calling it. Oh 17 foot at least he said." . . . just goes to highlight how tricky the How Big Was That Wave question is . . . Steve Arklay Aframephotos pic of . . . um . . . sizeable Bells ;

The race between wave and rider

We've been on a big wave bender for the last few weeks in Hawaii. It's been incredible. One of the most memorable winters in my books. As I lay in my bed and type this caption, I'm really grateful for this change in weather and to use these next couple of weeks to reset my body and prioritise my recovery. Today's also the first day I've stopped since the new year. It's given me time to reflect on the last run of swells and just how happy my heart is to be finally back doing what I love again after a couple of years in the back seat…
