Le Toboggan Empowering families and educators to raise the next generation of multilingual Australians. At Le toboggan we love books and multiculturalism.

We are an online international children's bookshop and we run French and Spanish language workshops across Perth. We also think that books must be read from an early age. So we decided to bring the three together by distributing International Children’s books. The more a child reads, the more skills, creativity, imagination and fun he is gaining. We want to encourage all children, not only those with a multicultural background, to read, speak, explore and have fun in a foreign language. This is why Le toboggan also offers French and Spanish Workshops to familiarise or reinforce language skills through a variety of activities, such as singing, craft and games.

Birthday coming up and you would like to start and/or complete a library in your language?

We can help you with a gift list.

🔩How does it work?

Option 1 - you create a gift list on our website and add the books you wish to acquire.
Send the link to your guests and they will choose which book they like.
We will despatch them as the orders arrive.

Feel bad about asking for dearer books? => Option 2 is for you.

Option 2 - contact us and we create the gift list account for you.
We send you a link for your guests to send their contributions. No minimum required.
At a pre-decided date, we will issue you a gift voucher for the total of the contributions to be used at the bookshop or online.
We will also supply a final statement as well as regular updates on the contributions.

'C'est l'histoire d'un hippopotame'

In French, from 2yo.

The hippo loves to sing when she bathes. The issue is she cannot hold a note. The other animals notice and ask her to stop singing. She wouldn't. So the snake, the gazelle and the bee decide to force her to stop. While they are fighting with her, the lion approaches and ask who was singing. The animals are so scared, he looks so hungry! The hippo finally starts singing again and the lion falls asleep. Relieved the other animals are happy with the hippo as long as the lion is not a danger.

However, not all animals are happy with the hippo. Guess who has sensitive ears with the story of the hippo or 'c'est l'histoire d'un hippopotame...'

🎨 School Holiday Art Workshop: Explore Monet's Bridge! 🌸

Give your children a creative, language-immersive adventure this school holiday!
Join us at Le Toboggan Bookshop in Nedlands for a hands-on journey into Impressionism.
Children will learn about Claude Monet’s famous art and paint their very own masterpiece inspired by his iconic bridge over the lily pond.

Children are welcome to bring snacks and water.

Recommended for children 5yo+.

When: Friday, 9 October
🇫🇷 French Session: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
🇪🇸 Spanish Session: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Where: Le Toboggan Bookshop, Nedlands

Price: $65/child. Art materials are provided.

Language teachers, we can help you with your book awards.

Here is an example of what has been purchased by a local primary school.

If you are in the Perth metro area, we can drop a box of books off at the school and you can choose whichever is the most suitable to the age and proficiency level of your students.

If you are outside the Perth metro area, send your selection of books and we will send pictures of the contents so you can better choose.

In this gorgeous board book with colourful illustration, little readers will follow the adventures of children in their preschool class. They will learn about the shapes that all around them, from the round shape of the car and truck wheels, the triangle shaped wings of the butterflies, painting diamonds and hearts. This is an engaging book that presents the concepts within a context, it does not teach isolated words.

As a parent of trilingual kids myself, I remember how important our bedtime routine was - always 2 stories in French, 2 stories in Spanish. I also remember how hard it was to keep rhyming text intact after a long day.

Bedtime is a special time, and stories should bring you closer - not turn into a translation exercise.
