The Drill Hall Emporium, in New Norfolk, combines a 19th century department store with quality antiques. You will find a wide range of items for the home, both decorative and practical, including quality antique furniture from fine English and French pieces to country oak and pine items. Stools, benches and a luggage rack. All English, dating from the mid 19th century through to early 20th century. As practical today as the day they were made. Perhaps just more charming!

Completely honoured and grateful to be included between the covers of this, “The World’s Most Beautiful Shops” by The ShopKeepers Paula Flynn. This was the “exciting news” we alluded to last week. It’s beyond exciting for us. It makes the years (and years) of being shopkeepers feel all the more worthy. From the day we decided to throw in our professional careers, to the fear we would fail on that very first overseas buying trip, to the many more trips and shipments and late nights whilst juggling family life. Well, actually, we will say no more. Preorder your copy and read our full story! And the many other stories behind the world’s most beautiful shops.

Some of Paula’s words “After years of traveling, photographing, researching, and meeting remarkable shopkeepers around the world, I’m excited to finally share my first book, The World’s Most Beautiful Shops.

This book is a celebration of the wonderful shops that make our cities and towns so memorable. Inside you’ll discover extraordinary bookstores, florists, cafés, ateliers, bakeries, galleries, antique stores, and beautifully curated spaces across six continents—along with the stories of the passionate people behind them.

It has truly been a labor of love, and I can’t wait to share this book with you. If you’re planning to order a copy, I hope you’ll consider preordering it through your local independent bookshop. Supporting independent bookstores is one small but meaningful way we can help ensure these special places continue to thrive.”

Thanks Paula for believing we are worthy of your book 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. We will have this book available to purchase at our sister store, Miss Arthur please get in touch if you would like to preorder your copy.

Donna is back at the shop, and getting stronger each day after breaking her ankle a few months ago. She’s at the helm today with young James as an assistant.

This is me, at the counter. Where you may have found me over the last few months. You see, Donna, my sister and business partner, had a fall 8 weeks ago and broke her ankle. In three places. Surgery, rest and the beginnings of rehabilitation has seen her start to find her feet again. She is hoping to return to the shop next week.

Anyway, I’ve been at the shop a lot more, at the counter nearly always, and have actually managed to improve my wrapping skills! I’ve really enjoyed connecting with all our customers, and generally just being a shopkeeper with all the duties that come with it.

Just a note, we will be closed tomorrow for the King’s birthday public holiday. Open again on Thursday as usual.

This weekend, why not get the wheels on the road for a good old fashioned country drive? Our town is brimming with shops, eateries and nature making it a great all-rounder for the family or a trip with friends. The weather is looking pretty nice for it, too.
