Geelong Design Week 2026 ✨

Celebrating Australian design, made in Geelong.

Geelong Design Week is returning from Oct 1-11 to showcase the creativity, innovation & craftsmanship that continues to shape Australia’s only UNESCO City of Design.

We’re delighted to be part of this year’s program with our own LoomTex installation feat. Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics. We’re excited to have collaborations in the works with Dowel Jones & Jayne Newgreen ~ Textile Artist with Tiffany Titshall, highlighting the power of local cross-disciplinary partnerships.

With more than 100 exhibitions, talks, tours, workshops & experiences taking place across the city, Geelong Design Week offers a unique opportunity to explore the ideas & innovation shaping the future of Australian design.

This year’s program also introduces the inaugural Victorian Regional Design Fair, bringing together designers, makers & manufacturers from across regional Victoria at the new Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre Geelong Convention & Event Centre.

We were delighted to host an interstate tour for Brisbane teams from COX Architecture & ebb&flow design alongside Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics, offering a behind the scenes look at Australian textile manufacturing.

From the dyehouse & weaving floor to finishing & quality control, the tour showcased the skill & craftsmanship behind every textile.

The experience concluded with a visit to our friends & neighbours at Dowel Jones Workshop, highlighting another outstanding example of Australian design & manufacturing here in Geelong.

We’re grateful for opportunities like these to strengthen the connection between designers & makers, fostering a deeper appreciation for local production & the talented people behind it.

Advancing tradition through innovation.

We’re investing in the future of Australian textiles with the commissioning of our new Fadis winding machine, advanced technology from Milan to Geelong.

In yarn dyeing, consistency begins long before colour is applied. The preparation of yarn packages is fundamental to achieving the precise, repeatable dye results our customers rely on.

With advanced digital control of tension & density, our new winding technology delivers exceptional accuracy across a broad range of yarn counts & fibre types, including wool, cotton, blends & synthetics.

Capable of winding at speeds of up to 2,250 metres per minute, compared with our previous average of 600 metres per minute, this investment represents a substantial increase in efficiency while maintaining the quality standards that define LoomTex.

Our focus remains on empowering our experienced team in their skilled craftsmanship with world-class technology, enhancing quality control & increasing capacity.

With this new ability to prepare x4 times more yarn for dyeing every hour, this technology will help us deliver greater consistency, responsiveness & capability for our customers.

Highlight moments from Green Design Show with
Circular Design Thinking.

We were proud to have LoomTex featured within Circular Design Thinking’s display alongside Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics & Sustainable Living Fabrics, showcasing the role conscious & considered locally made textiles can play in a more circular future.

Part of the Material Matters trail, the exhibit held an incredible sense of community with the shared goal of impacting action + innovation in the design + manufacturing sectors.

It was inspiring to hear Liz Miles of Sustainable Living Fabrics speak on the Females in Fabric panel, sharing valuable insights on the triumphs & challenges of Australian made textiles.

We were also blown away with the talent in this years Emerging Designer Awards by VIVID Emerging Designer Awards 🙌

Congratulations to the Circular Design Thinking team & everyone involved in bringing this event to life.

Project preview with Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics & Woods Bagot

We’re currently weaving thousands of metres of Native wool fabric by Instyle for a significant commercial project by Woods Bagot & we’re so excited to see this vision take shape.

Landmark projects like these truly showcase the strength of local collaboration, when Australian design & Australian manufacturing come together at scale.

From concept to creation, watching this beautifully crafted textile move through production reflects the power of Australian design in combination with local expertise & manufacturing capability.

We can’t wait to see this project revealed & share the final result soon.

Australian manufactured LoomTex textiles illuminate the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre Geelong Convention & Event Centre by Woods Bagot.

LoomTex along with its joint venture partner Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics, delivered Woods Bagot’s vision for the plenary seating & wall panelling using Australian grown & manufactured wool fabric, proudly dyed & woven in Geelong. Thousands of metres of Instyle’s wool design Native was upholstered on wall panelling & auditorium seating.

As an integral part of Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics’s sustainability strategy that focuses on substantive & positive engagement with the environment, Instyle | Textiles, Leathers + Acoustics donates funds to The Nature Conservancy AUS for every metre of Native sold. This project alone will see thousands put towards vital environmental conservation projects around Australia.

We were honoured to celebrate the opening of the new landmark with the Geelong community over the weekend. The design of the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention & Event Centre celebrates Wadawurrung Heritage, co-designed with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.

The Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre Geelong Convention & Event Centre is funded by the Australian Government & vic.government & the City of Greater Geelong through the Geelong City Deal & delivered by Development Victoria.

LoomTex celebrates the collaborative efforts of all partners, including multiple levels of government, to bring this project to life. A jewel of Geelong that honours Australian manufacturing.

LoomTex Australian knitting yarns at 🧶

Developed within the UNSW Textiles 2 studio course, these works explore experimental knit design through fine Australian merino wool yarns supplied by LoomTex.

Using innovative knitting techniques with a material-led approach, students investigate structure, texture, openness, & form while developing a deeper understanding the craftsmanship involved in textile construction.

The project reflects the importance of supporting local manufacturing & Australian wool, celebrating the quality & sustainability of locally sourced fibres, fostering meaningful connections between emerging designers & the Australian textile industry.
