Nothing is Everything, Salone 2009.

After viewing Milan Design Week through my phone rather than in the materials themselves, I found myself looking back at my very first Salone in 2009.

I had taken this photograph on the street before even stepping inside ~ a layered collage built from what was already there, torn posters, fragments, colour, tape, type. Nothing is Everything ~ a way of working, long before I had the language for it.

I’ve written more on this ~ my first Salone, the archive, and the moment material began to lead across everything I was doing.

Sunday, slowly ~ Faces of the Earth basketry by As you know, baskets hold a special place in my heart. This latest collaboration draws from ceremonial masks ~ forms that carry spirit and memory.

What does it mean to carry that presence into an object that moves through the world with someone? It feels like a travel talisman to me.

That is very close to how I feel about it. The ceremonial mask has always represented more than appearance to me. It holds invocation, identity, protection, and passage. When that language enters an object that travels with someone, it becomes intimate in a different way. It leaves ritual space and enters daily life while still carrying something of its original depth. I think of these pieces as quiet companions. They move through airports, streets, homes, and cities, yet they continue carrying an interior presence. A talisman is powerful because it does not need to announce itself. Its work is subtle. It remains close to the body and close to memory. What matters to me is treating the spirit of the original reference with care, ensuring that what is carried forward is not just the surface, but a deeper sense of continuity.

Mother Tongue Journal ~ in conversation with What unfolds is not simply a designer’s perspective, but a considered philosophy of making ~ one that moves between devotion, discipline, and deep listening.

Her words offer a clear and grounded lens on what it means to create in right relationship: with material, with time, and with the hands that shape an idea into form. For anyone interested in working with artisans, her reflections act as a kind of shorthand ~ not in the sense of simplification, but as a distilled understanding of the care, clarity, and structure required for meaningful collaboration.

Sunday Slowly ~ from basketry to lighting. The new lighting collection by reinterprets some of their most recognisable woven forms, translating them into light. How to light up your life 101? This is it.

Developed through a working residency with the artisan community in Bolgatanga, the collection is grounded in time, dialogue, and shared making. Under the creative direction of it resolves into a complete, architectural offering across ceiling, wall, table and floor.

Within this collection sits the Conch Shell, a personal favourite. I first imagined it in 2019 while living and working alongside the Baba Tree weavers. It came instinctively ~ a study of spiral, rhythm, and form.

Brought into being by master artisan Perpetual Agaadam, it did not remain singular. It has continued to move through many hands, sustaining well paid work ~ time and time again. Now, it becomes light and for that I am truly grateful. ♾️🌾💡🐚

Materials Are Sacred, Imbued With Infinite Potential. At A4DInterwoven, what we make and how we make it truly matters.

A4DInterwoven Ghana moves beyond sourcing and into relationship ~ developing pieces that hold story, skill, and integrity from the very beginning. Not trend extraction, but living craft, made in alignment.

Through our established relationships and on-the-ground experience, we open pathways that would otherwise take years to build ~ not through shortcuts, but through trust. This means moving beyond the uncertainty of unfamiliar networks and connecting directly with communities of makers whose practices are grounded in care, continuity, and cultural knowledge.

We work from a simple belief ~ that when materials are treated with reverence and making is approached with intention, what is created carries a living energy. Not just an object, but something felt.

We develop and craft collections in collaboration with skilled artisans — pieces that invite pleasure, presence, and a sense of ease, guided by sustainability, ethical making, and respect for origin.

This is not just about what we create… but how it is created, and who with.
