Winter. The perfect time to gather some friends. Light a fire. And throw in some....pots!

That's what a group of our potters will be doing in a few weeks, under the watchful eye of our beautiful tutor, Janelle.

Pitt firing is a traditional pottery technique that involves burying pottery pieces in a pit with combustible materials like wood, leaves and sawdust and setting the pit on fire.

This method creates unique and unpredictable patterns and colour, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be replicated by electric or gas kilns.

Pit firing is considered an eco friendly method, with a rich history dating back thousands of years.

We can't wait to see the results but, in the meantime, here is some of the work from previous workshops.

What a fantastic weekend demonstration workshop with Maryke Henderson! We loved welcoming everyone into the studio for a weekend of inspiration, learning, and community. It was a privilege to watch Maryke work and gain such valuable insight into her process and techniques.

A big thank you to Maryke for her generosity in sharing her expertise, and to everyone who joined us to make the weekend so special. We’re always grateful for the chance to come together to learn and connect.

Our "Land" exhibition featuring works from the Monday night potters is now on display in the cabinet in the main craft centre building.

It's a lovely combination of colours, hand building and wheel thrown pieces and different clay.

Well done to everyone for helping to create such a beautiful display.

Congratulations to Karen, Belinda, Elisabeth, Jen, Lil, Pip and Susi, and their super tutors, Janelle and Laine, who just completed a 6 week throwing class.

Laine says that the group developed from finding it hard to centre to attempting to pull a 10 inch cylinder - something they would never have tried.

The course gave them " confidence to go past their comfort zone" and Laine said that it was " just amazing - it's the beginning of a lifetime of learning and we could not have asked for a lovelier group."

Well done, ladies. We look forward to sharing some of your creations over the coming weeks.
