This weekend gone, we had the privilege to meet and purchase the extensive coin, banknote and stamp collection of legendary numismatist, auctioneer and author Derek J Foster.

Mr Foster, the first coin dealer of Blacktown, authored the very first coin collecting guide and catalogue in Australia, Fosters Coin Catalogue & Guide for Beginners. He ran his legendary coin shop, Blacktown Auctions, in the arcade mall on Main Street, Blacktown before broadening his horizons as a valuer and auctioneer working closely with Customs House throughout the 1960s and early 1970s.

Mr. Foster sold many 1930 pennies and Holey Dollars during his career, working in a friendly rivalry with a young Jim Noble of Noble Numismatics. A keen admirer of legendary artist Norman Lindsay, Mr. Foster collated a vast and varied collection of antiques, paintings, catalogues, book plates and Japanese netsuke dating from the 1700s onwards.

We begin the task of cataloguing and preparing this sizeable collection ready for sale, and thank Mr. Foster for his insight, imparting his wisdom and sharing his collection with us.

On the 1st January 2025, our new-look website will launch!

Be sure to take a look, as it coincides with the first Royal Australia Mint release of the year!

Products will continue to be uploaded DAILY, so keep an eye out for limited edition items, stocks and deals!

We also have something else up our sleeves for Quarter 1 of 2025, but we will keep that quiet just a little longer…

In the meantime, we wish you all a Happy Holiday season, an especially exciting time for the Heritage family this year as we welcome our third child over Xmas!
