Some “New in Store” books landing upon the bench this morning, and some new ones in general!

Happy to see The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires back in, likely my favorite of Grady Hendrix’s books!

This is only a taste of the books coming in (always more coming, always 😵‍💫) but it seems like a nice day for a venture out to your favorite secondhand bookshop (no, not them, US)!

Also, I’ve had an idea to post pictures of the shelves of an individual section for folks to peruse from home. If I did that, which section would you like to see first?!

No, I’m not Scott Pape, no this post isn’t sponsored by him, but I am spouting off some financial books that I wish I’d read back when I got my first job or at least in my twenties (or even thirties… but who’s counting). The books mentioned are The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape and the one I just finished, How Not to Work Forever by Natasha Etschmann and Ana Kresina.

Also, as mentioned, Libro.fm Audiobooks is giving away Billy Eichner ‘s book Billy on Billy and since this posts to Facebook, I’m just going to throw the link in here and if you’re interested get in ASAP as it is while quantities last or September 15th rolls around! Billy is a comedian and entertainer, who features in many a hilarious clip online, one of those faces you’ll know him once you see him!

Today is entirely vibes. As you can see, ample parking opportunities out the front now since Waminda has moved a block over. A few other pictures, one shows our gorgeous typewriter, throne, cave plant, and Jubly-Umph stickers! This is followed closely by our New to Us walls, our bags, and Classics section.

The only thing you can’t get from the photos are the sweet jazzy tunes of Sil Austin. The attached tune on Insta comes close at least, hopefully it comes across to Facebook!

Anyway, I’ll be wandering around, bumping into the shelves if you need me! See you in store! -TJ

Not something you see every day; a book that a bookseller will happily toss into the recycling. Get rich quick schemes abound but when a guy steals from literal Nuns and buys himself his own island, and I’m fairly certain only received a fine and a slap on the wrist, you begin to wonder if a conscience is the only thing making you work so hard! 😵‍💫

Anyway, if you’re looking for some ACTUAL financial advice or guidance we do have a ton of other decent books (if you haven’t read it yet, Barefoot Investor is a masterclass in the basics and we have a few of his around).

Don’t mind the wonky camera work, I’ve never said I was a professional!

As I’m staring down our bills for the month, I’d love to see you and your friends in store as Nowra is so quiet at the moment! In fact, we’ve had not one, not two, but three customers shocked to find a spot right out front!

That aside, Folio Society editions are scattered through our shelves (especially classics) and we are happy to announce a slew of classics have arrived back in! A Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Iliad, Don Quixote, Ulysses, Frankenstein, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Lord of the Flies, and Metamorphosis all back in!

Anyway back to it, wish me luck! - TJ

Quite ready to move past 2026, feeling terrible again but better than my last bout of gastro! 😮‍💨 Also, I won’t be recommending folks get mussels on their next seafood outing. UGH.

Also, Libro.fm Audiobooks and Silent Book Club are helping us run an audiobook walk on October 10th! For everyone who turns up, you will get a digital audiobook copy of “How to Defend Books and Why” by Danny Caine. We will have an open discussion around not just bans but defending funding for the arts in general, which seems very much at risk. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, please feel free to let me know in the comments! This post is more of a save the date for the event and I’ll get an RSVP page up and running soon!

Together, we can keep books and literacy alive for future generations! 🥳

Reading is so important for children’s development and when I was younger, libraries represented a safe space for self directed learning and exploration. Those folks who worked in our libraries were so important for discovery and opening up my world view that I feel the need to share this petition. If we let this happen up the road, it won’t be long before it happens in a community closer to home or ours.

Just a few series and sets to go out next week, sorry I haven’t priced them all yet but if there are any you’re interested in, feel free to reach out!

Thanks to our lovely community for keeping me well and truly stocked with the good stuff!

I bought that calendar to ensure I was more organized this year… I just changed it to September today 😅 Just like all those fresh notebooks and fancy pens help with my writing! Yeah consumerism! Whoooo!

Today is an overshare kind of day because I believe in being honest with folks. This is not a scare tactic or an effort to guilt you into buying more books, but the reality is our rent rises with CPI, wages increase, and just about every bill has gone up. I do still have a mortgage, so financials are always a concern, plus no one (especially me) wants me to go into politics!

I am grateful for every additional day in this shop. I know it’s a blessing. It’s the greatest job I’ve ever had and likely will ever have. I’m so happy to be here and I’m so thankful for you folks out there following and those folks who aren’t even on the socials. I can’t thank you all enough for supporting me in this dream but still from the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you, a million times thank you.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I believe I have a long standing date with the non-fiction section! 😮‍💨 Hope to see you in store, 9-2 today!

Another day, another ADHD meme coming my way. Anyone else relate to those? Yeeeeeah, apparently a lack of sleep can produce similar symptoms. Read that at 2AM while prepping my overnight oats and iced coffee for this morning. No, not in one… but… 🤔

This month is heavy on the bills so if you relate to my content or find it funny, just give it a like and a share! Even better, come on in and buy some books, or feel free to visit our Libro.FM shop for your audiobook needs! Every dollar helps!

I forgot to mention, in the book The of Golden, there’s a bookshop owner who jokes that he’s one week away from closing the doors. As a bookshop owner, in 2026, the joke feels both relatable and relevant. I always say that I will do this as long as the customers will allow me to, but that is the truth of it!

Anyway folks, I hope to see you in soon and will be putting out all the good vibes! -TJ
