It is that time of year again. The Blessing of the Fleet is almost here 🦞 This Fremantle tradition has been running since 1948 and brings together the fishing community, the Italian and Portuguese communities and generations of families who have worked on the water.

The festival celebrates the post‑war immigrants from Molfetta and Capo d’Orlando who brought the Blessing of the Fleet to Fremantle. It is a day of pride, culture and connection for everyone involved in the rock lobster industry.

This year’s Blessing of the Fleet will be held on Sunday 25 October 2026. The Fremantle Festival team is adding new celebrations, including Festival by the Sea, which showcases Italian music, art, culture and food.

Sunday morning at 11.30 am is the Rope Coiling Competition, proudly sponsored by Crackpots. It is a great event to watch, so come down and cheer on our local cray fishermen ⚓

This nifty little aluminium box is a winner 🦞 It is the perfect solution for anyone who has a winch on their boat and is not sure where to mount their footswitch.

It is designed to fit the standard footswitch supplied with the Anchormax winch, but it can be modified to suit other winch brands. It comes with the cable gland already fitted to the rear.

You can buy the box on its own, with a replacement switch, or as part of a full winch and tipper kit. And it is WA made.

Good ropes are a crayfisherman’s friend 🦞 All of our pre‑made, ready-to-go ropes are made from the same super-strong 11 mm PP rag rope that we supply to the pro crayfishermen. Rag rope gets its name from the fluff that appears on the outside over time, making it easier to grip. You can be confident it won't let you down when you are pulling your pots.

Our pre-cut ropes cover all the options, whether you are fishing deep or shallow.

Choose from:
🔵 20 m
🔵 25 m
🔵 30 m
🔵 35 m
🔵 40 m

And if it is whale season or you want to avoid prop chop, we have ropes with lead weights already lazy-spliced in.

In stock and ready to go ⚓

If you are getting pots, ropes and floats, we can engrave your gear ID for you.

Every craypot needs at least one float with your gear ID engraved 🦞 Your gear ID is issued by DPIRD when you apply for a crayfishing licence. It is always six characters long, made up of two letters and four numbers.

Each registered crayfisher can have two pots, which means your gear ID can only be attached to two pots. No more. And only the person whose licence is attached to a pot is allowed to pull it.

You can choose to share pots. This means attaching two floats to a pot, each engraved with a different gear ID. Two different people can pull that pot, and they do not have to be on the boat at the same time.

DPIRD has a handy booklet that explains all the regulations. You can pick one up in store at Crackpots or read it online.

Freezers are on and fully loaded with cray bait 🦞We have a big range in stock and extra freezer capacity this year, so hopefully we will have exactly what you are chasing when you come in.

✅️ 18 kg boxes of roughy
✅️ 15 kg boxes of tuna heads
✅️ 20 kg boxes of blue mack
✅️ 5 kg boxes of hoki
✅️ Plus smaller 2 kg bags

If you are new to cray fishing and wondering what bait to buy, here are a few thoughts. Keep your bait fresh. Do not overpack the bait basket so the water can move around the bait. Some people recommend using a mix of oily bait and holding bait.

Hoki and blue mackerel are oily fish. They are red-fleshed, bloody, and have a high oil content that attracts crays. Orange roughy makes a great holding bait because the frames have a high concentration of calcium, which means it lasts longer in your bait baskets.

So the ideal might be a mix of hoki and orange roughy or blue mack and orange roughy. But every cray fisherman has their own opinions, so stick with what works for you.

Open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. A sneaky Saturday opening is coming up on October 10, from 9 am to 12 pm. See you soon ⚓
