The black cockatoo, candle banksia, and honey bees share an interesting ecological relationship in Australian ecosystems. Black cockatoos are large, intelligent birds known for their distinctive black feathers and powerful beaks, which they use to feed on seeds, nuts, and fruits. One of their preferred food sources is the candle banksia, a plant with tall, candle-like flower spikes rich in nectar. Honey bees are also drawn to the nectar of the candle banksia, playing a crucial role in pollination. While bees gather nectar, they spread pollen between flowers, aiding in the plant's reproduction. In turn, banksia seeds provide a valuable food source for black cockatoos, demonstrating how these species are interconnected in a balanced ecosystem.

When a heatwave strikes Perth, providing additional water sources for cooling the hives will, I believe, be welcomed by the bees. Although they have access to a large water pond 150 meters away, I am confident that the bees will recognize and appreciate the availability of an extra water source.
