Although Summerland Honey is no longer a registered business and we no longer are able to supply Honey, we still do have a lot of friends still in the market business. We urge you to support them whenever you can because small-business is the livelihood of Australia. To this end, our good friend Kate from Kates Kakes Au has a delicious arrangement of beautiful cakes that she will have for you to check out on Saturday at Glenbrook Rotary market at the primary school behind the petrol station on the Great Western Highway. Please go early because it’s gonna be a hot day and you’ll get a better parking space. And of course you’ll get the best choice of all her beautiful cakes and things. But please, don’t be greedy, leave me a half a dozen mince pies if you are so inclined.
If any of our wonderful former customers are reading this, we hope you’re doing well. We wish you all the very best for Christmas.
Rest assured we are loving retirement but miss all your friendly familiar faces.

Although we have retired and our bees have been sold, we remember with fondness the many lovely customers and fellow stallholders who became good friends at this market. So we ask our previous customers to please get along and support the market as small businesses are really struggling at the moment.

We are winding the business down slowly and the bees are shortly going to go to their new home. We just thought we’d like to share this with you. It is something we weren’t particularly aware of. But we are glad to hear they do get a rest. If you can, look at this on an iPad or a laptop and blow it up really large .

I’ve been reflecting on the first few Messy Memories classes.

They’ve been even more powerful than I expected.

People have opened up in ways I didn’t anticipate. There were moments where someone would say, “I’ve never said this to anyone before.” And in those moments, I could feel the weight of what it meant to be heard, truly heard.

It’s been beautiful to witness the way conversation unfolds when people feel safe. There’s a softness, a depth. People start talking about their loved ones, their quirks, their voices, the grief that still lingers in unexpected ways.

And when that space opens up, I get to gently explore why they might be feeling the way they do. We talk through the emotions, the confusion, the memories that resurface without warning.
It’s such a privilege.

Not just to guide you, but to be trusted in that space.

Please read this post. I found it very interesting. It particularly applies to any small business. Rest assured increasing prices is not something anyone does lightly . We know we are all doing it tough.

To our valued customers,

You would have to be living under a rock if you aren’t aware that the cost of living just continues to skyrocket and small business is by no means immune to this. Our business has been trading now for 13 years and I’ve never seen it tougher.

We love our customers and community and understand the importance of continuing to provide a welcoming place for family and friends to gather and provide employment for locals. We pride ourselves on our service and menu offerings, but it must be sustainable.

In the last week we have introduced some small price increases to a number of our menu items and you may see some further small increases in the weeks ahead. We have also updated the menu with some of our winter offerings. One main change is that we’ve replaced the Chicken Burger with the new Beef & Bacon Cheeseburger and the Beef, Mushroom & Red W**e Pot Pie is now on the regular menu. We will also have a daily soup special over these winter months.

Please know that these price increases are never done lightly. Many of our suppliers already passed on price increases to us earlier this year, which we absorbed (eggs, bread, tomato, coffee beans). However, further increases in wages, super, electricity, gas, rates, accounting software, workers comp, insurance come into effect with the start of this new financial year. In fact, as I write this message our milk supplier has advised of a price rise.

Although we have formally retired from markets and selling Honey, we just want our regular customers to know about things like this. Very nasty winds and heavy rain are forecast for Sydney due to an East Coast low west of Sydney.

Due to the forecasted weather conditions this Wednesday, we’ve made the tough but necessary decision to cancel this week’s Parramatta Farmers Market for everyone’s safety.

Surprising I got any work done at all as I was so busy making all these memories. Believe me when I say Greg and I will miss each and every one of you. But I won’t be lying when I said we enjoyed sleeping in till seven this morning and not being out there in the cold today . So please support the people at the markets. Small business needs your help now more than ever. We will keep this page open for awhile and perhaps post photos of what we’re up to.
