Teen Confidence

Often in life when growing up, teens tend to create an urge for acceptance from their peers. This is commonly known as Peer Pressure. But as Dr. Dobson rightly put it in his book, Life on the Edge, it is just more than being influence by a friend to do something or carry on a particular act. "It is a need for acceptance". The urge and crave in teens to be loved by their fellows, friends, family and the society is very grave. We tend to want to satisfy our friends, and classmates in the things we do. If we disappoint their expectations, we feel depressed and unaccepted. This phenomenon in teenagers causes much hurt and pain. It causes teens to lose a sense of confidence in them. When confidence is lost, depression and sadness rules in one s life so that he or she is not successful at what he might want to do.

I do recall a very particular instance when I was humiliated so that all my confidence was lost. On a very particular Saturday, I went to sit for a scholarship test that would be a lifetime opportunity of education. Before then, I had taken this test before and failed. In recognition, I definitely knew what to expect therefore, I was confident.I had shared the opportunity with many of my friends that I knew and they were going to take it too. That early Saturday morning, as I clearly remember, I had dressed my best with a bizarre sense of confidence to pass. I could only think of the opportunity ahead of me and the glory too but that morning would prove to be the worst moment of my teenage years. I took the test in a very appropriate amount of time and expected a very high grade as I knew how easy it was but something changed. As per the last year, results were not announced but this year, it would be announced and students highest mark were glorified by the others clapping for them. They would be taken to the next round.
