This is the time of year we receive our seeds for next Spring! The excitement here is very real!! 🌸🌸🌸

Always working a year in advance, our fabulous Italian Ranunculus, Anemone & Colibri Poppy supplier Biancheri Creazioni are so talented in the varieties they develop for the cut-flower market and are so very supportive in the process required to get them here to Australia.

I am beyond excited to be able to go and meet them in February with Alissa - to see all of the beauty they grow and how they do it, it is going to be such an invaluable (and unbelievably fun!) experience. I can’t wait to share all our learnings when we get back.

From October we will launch our biggest specialty Italian seed collection yet, which will include:

🌸 34 varieties of ANEMONES - Levante, Mistral & Scirocco series
🌸 9 varieties of POPPIES - Colibri series
🌸 50 varieties of RANUNCULUS - Elegance series

Make sure you have subscribed on the website to be notified when we release, as quite a few of these varieties are sold out with Biancheri for the year, so while we can restock a lot of them if needed, some are most definitely limited!

New digs for our pest and compost crew! ⛲️

We have build new bird housing (including what have turned out to be ‘stables’ for laying - flower fairies are currently requesting mini donkeys to share the space 😉) and we are getting closer to completion on our new ‘proper’ pond for both the birds and the pigs, with James now extending one of the ramps so the pigs can access and wallow more easily. It is plumbed and filtered and we will be able to do maintenance pump-outs to keep it fresh. The water is supplied by our bore so it is easy to refill.

The biggest challenge we are yet to puzzle out is how to keep the pigs out of the bird run (ie their food) as we are pretty sure they will be able to get in through the new hatch (our choice of size 🤦🏻‍♀️😂) that will let the birds out. But we still need it big enough for the geese to get in and out so it will just take some experimentation to see how small we can make it to prevent the pigs getting in while still letting the birds out.

Our beautiful piggies are a very popular part of our farm experiences and we use their p**p in our compost. Our ducks and geese eat the slugs and snails and other pests in our flower fields. During the ‘safer’ middle of the day hours the birds will have access to the pig paddock and pond and each working day when our crops allow we will be escorting them to a different area of the flower farm to keep it clean and tidy of pests and give them their favourite snacks.

Note - I starting to feel really bad the duckies don’t have names.. we are hoping the number will increase in Spring with some 🐣 too, so naming and then identifying that many ducks may prove a tad tricky

We have already sold out of most of our Experiences for Spring (only one ticket left on 22nd Sep and 10 tickets on 13th October) and we already have waitlists running. We do hope to add more dates from later this month as our season kicks into gear. SPRING FARM EXPERIENCES - Italian Ranunculus, Anemones, Colibri Poppies & Pansies

Welcome to SPRING!!! We can’t wait to share our fields of flowers with you with more than 50 varieties across 50,000 plants of these beautiful blooms.

We are initially offering two types of Farm Experiences this Spring:

🌸 Flower Therapy

🌸 ‘Golden Hour’ Pick-Your-Own Bouquet Experience

Our Anemones will flower ahead of our Ranunculus, so the first two weeks of experiences will be for Anemones & Poppies. We expect our Ranunculus and main Colibri Poppy field to be in bloom by October, along with our Italian Pansies.

We expect to make additional tickets available for the September dates as well as offer more dates for both experience types - but this will completely depend on bloom production. We will notify you of new dates and additional ticket availability weekly.

As our planting this year is five times the scale of what we usually grow, we also hope to add a fantastic new experience on Saturday mornings in October, our ‘Brunch Bouquet’ Pick-Your-Own Experience. This new offering will be confirmed and tickets released late September, along with additional Flower Therapy experiences.

While Ranunculus usually flower into November in our climate, last year we were cut short by an unexpected heat wave which ended our season early, so at this stage we are not offering any dates after mid-October as we do not want to repeat the disappointment, especially as we are forecast to have a warmer than usual Spring and Summer. However, if the weather is kind we will most certainly extend our season towards the end of October. Mother Nature will decide and we will announce season extension on a week-by-week basis in October.

Such a lovely day for our excursion to Burradoo Park Farm - Regenerative farming in action

We always have an outing after finishing our Winter projects and before we kick into high gear for Spring. We were just missing our Mel but we made sure to drop baked goods off to cheer up sick family.

First pic is us trying to be ‘proper’, second pic is a bit more real life 🤣

We loved Burradoo Park Farm, definitely worth a visit - the design of the farm, the education offerings, the food, the gardens and the glass houses were all so stunning.

Anyone who can help us put a business case to husband on why we ‘neeeeeeed’ an orangery glasshouse is very welcome to contribute tips 😉😘

Always the first to bloom - Anemone Levante Blu, beautifully bred by Biancheri Creazioni 🌸💜

Levante Anemones are typically a bit shorter than the Mistral Anemones but still oh so perfect for cutting and their unique double-blooms, just WOW! Bred specifically for the cut-flower market, Levante stems are super sturdy (much stronger than traditional Anemones) and the florists LOVE them. The Levante series of Anemones are my favourite by far - I can’t wait to show you all the new colours this season!
