Candle colours in witchcraft - what does each one mean?
it's not just aesthetics! In candle magick, colour carries energy and intention. Here's your quick reference guide 🌙✨

◽White - Purification, peace, new beginnings, and protection. The all-purpose candle. White can substitute for any colour in a pinch.

◼Black - Banishing, protection, releasing negativity, and shadow work. Black absorbs and transforms, a deeply powerful colour, not something to fear.

🔴Red - Passion, love, courage, vitality, and desire. Used in love spells and rituals calling for bold energy and strength.

🩷Pink - Gentle love, self-care, friendship, and compassion. Where red is fiery, pink is soft and nurturing, perfect for healing the heart.

🔶Orange - Creativity, ambition, success, and attraction. Great for career spells, drawing opportunities, and boosting confidence.

⭐Yellow - Intellect, clarity, communication, and joy. Linked to the sun and air element, ideal for study, travel, and mental focus.

💚Green - Abundance, money, fertility, growth, and healing. One of the most-used colours in prosperity and nature magick.

🔷Blue - Calm, truth, wisdom, healing, and psychic awareness. Light blue soothes; dark blue deepens intuition and spiritual connection.

💜Purple - Psychic power, divination, spirituality, and wisdom. The colour of the third eye, ideal for meditation and connecting with higher realms.

💿Silver - The moon, intuition, dreams, and the divine feminine. Used in lunar rituals and to enhance psychic gifts.

🌞Gold - The sun, success, wealth, and divine masculine energy. Powerful for drawing in luck, fame, and solar blessings.

🩵Teal / Turquoise - Emotional healing, communication, and balance. Bridges the heart and throat, helping with honest expression and inner peace.

Remember, intention is everything. The colour sets the energy, but your focus and will are what truly power the magick. 🔥

🕯️ The Magic of Candles - A Brief History

Long before electricity lit our homes, fire was the sacred heartbeat of ritual. Candles have been central to witchcraft and folk magic for thousands of years and their power hasn't dimmed one bit. 🔥

Ancient Egyptians and Romans used oil lamps and tapers in ceremonial worship, believing flame carried prayers directly to the gods. Early cunning folk and wise women incorporated candles into their hearth magic, using different colours, herbs, and intentions to manifest healing, protection, and love.

By the medieval period, the Church had both condemned and co-opted candle rituals. Lighting them for saints while accusing folk practitioners of using them for "dark" purposes. The irony? Many of those same folk practices survived underground, quietly passed down through generations.

Today, modern Wiccans, hedge witches, and eclectic practitioners continue this ancient flame-tending tradition. Whether you're dressing a candle with oils, carving sigils into wax, or simply sitting in quiet intention as it burns. You're part of a thread that stretches back millennia.

The flame remembers. 🕯️✨

🔍 Crystal Spotlight: Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a well-known variety of quartz, recognised for its soft pink colour, which comes from trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese within the crystal during formation.

It typically forms in pegmatite deposits, where mineral-rich magma cools slowly, allowing crystals to develop over time. Rose Quartz is found in several parts of the world, including Brazil, Madagascar, India, and South Africa.

Energetically, Rose Quartz is most commonly associated with the Heart Chakra. It is traditionally linked to love, compassion, and emotional balance. Many people work with it to encourage self-acceptance, strengthen relationships, and bring a sense of calm to emotional situations.

Because of its gentle and steady nature, Rose Quartz is often kept in the home, used in meditation, or carried as a daily reminder to approach life with patience and kindness.

🌙✨ Tarot Tuesday – The Moon ✨🌙

Not everything is as it seems…

The Moon invites us to slow down and listen to our intuition. When this card appears upright, it can point to hidden truths, confusion, or things unfolding beneath the surface. It’s a reminder to trust your instincts, even when the path ahead isn’t fully clear.

Reversed, The Moon may highlight fear, anxiety, or deception, either from others or from within. It asks you to gently question what you’re believing and to seek clarity before moving forward.

✨ Tonight’s reflection:
Is there something in your life that feels uncertain or unclear right now? What is your intuition trying to tell you?

Take your time. Not every answer needs to come all at once. 🌙

Have you ever come across a grey feather and wondered what it might mean? 🪶

In witchcraft and spiritual symbolism, grey feathers are often seen as signs of balance and quiet support. They sit between the light and dark

They’re also linked to neutrality, protection without force, and the presence of guiding energies.

If you find a grey feather, take it as a moment to ground yourself. You don’t need to have all the answers right now. Just stay centred and keep moving forward.

✨ You might like to
• Keep it on your altar for balance
• Use it in meditation or grounding rituals
• Place it near your bed for calm energy
• Carry it as a reminder to stay steady

Have you ever found a grey feather at just the right time? 🪶

Candles have long held a sacred place in witchcraft, their soft glow bridging the space between the physical and the spiritual. 🕯️

Candle magic is one of the oldest and most trusted practices, passed down through generations.

Different colours hold different meanings:
✨ White for purity and protection
❤️ Red for passion and strength
💚 Green for abundance and growth
🔮 Purple for intuition and spiritual work
🖤 Black for banishing and protection

But beyond colour, it’s your intention that truly matters. A simple candle, lit with purpose and focus, can be just as powerful as the most elaborate ritual.

Folklore Friday: Mothman 🦋👀

Not all creatures of folklore are ancient, some are a little more recent and a lot more curious.

Enter the legendary Mothman.

First spotted in the 1960s in West Virginia, Mothman is described as a tall, winged figure with glowing red eyes, often seen lurking around forests, roads, and, oddly enough, streetlights.

Now, while some stories paint Mothman as a mysterious omen, others have taken a more light-hearted view. After all, if you had wings and glowing eyes, wouldn’t you also be a little drawn to bright lights?

Over time, Mothman has become something of a beloved oddball in folklore—less terrifying monster, more awkward nighttime visitor who just can’t resist a good lamp.

Some say he appears before strange events and others say he’s just out there, minding his business, hovering dramatically near the nearest glow.

Either way, Mothman has earned a place in modern folklore as one of the most strangely charming creatures out there.

So next time you see something flutter past a streetlight at night…
it might just be a moth…
or maybe something a little more mysterious.

Do you think Mothman is a warning, or just a little misunderstood?

🧿 The Evil Eye

The evil eye is a belief found in many cultures, dating back thousands of years. It is generally understood as harm or misfortune caused by another person’s envy, whether intentional or not.

This idea appears across Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, where it was taken seriously and guarded against in everyday life.

Because of this, various protective customs developed. These often included:
• wearing protective charms
• using symbols or markings near the home
• spoken blessings or prayers
• simple acts to ward off ill intent

The purpose was not fear, but protection and prevention.

In traditional practice, the evil eye reflects the understanding that attention, especially negative attention, can have an effect, and that it is wise to take simple steps to guard against it.

Today, the symbol of the eye is still commonly used as a protective charm, representing awareness and defence rather than harm.

🔍 Crystal Spotlight
Smoky Quartz

Smoky Quartz is a naturally occurring variety of quartz known for its distinctive smoky brown to deep grey colouring. The colour forms when natural radiation interacts with trace amounts of aluminium within the quartz crystal structure during its formation.

Like other quartz varieties, Smoky Quartz forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks, often growing in cavities where mineral-rich fluids slowly crystallise over long periods of time. Significant deposits are found in Brazil, Switzerland, Scotland, Madagascar, and the United States.

Energetically, Smoky Quartz is most commonly associated with the Root Chakra. It is traditionally linked to grounding, stability, and protection, and is often used when people want to feel more centred and connected to the earth.

Because of its strong grounding associations, Smoky Quartz is frequently used in meditation practices, energy work, or kept nearby during stressful periods as a reminder to stay balanced and steady.
