We have been working with Kona for over three years to develop a range of premium hooks for the AU and NZ market. The first products to launch are our Full Glow Flasher Hooks, which have quickly become popular with anglers across Australia and New Zealand via JC Matthew.
Responsible sourcing is a core part of our business. In 2023, we visited several fishing tackle manufacturers to ensure their facilities, manufacturing standards, and staff welfare met our expectations. During these visits, we discovered Kona, a company with decades of experience in hook manufacturing. We were impressed by their well-equipped facilities, strong commitment to employee welfare, and rigorous quality control process, with every hook individually inspected before packaging.
Kona is internationally renowned for its big-game and fly-fishing hooks. Combining artisanal craftsmanship with advanced manufacturing techniques, every hook is chemically sharpened, precision tempered, highly durable, and backed by extensive metallurgical expertise. Their performance has been proven in real-world conditions and endorsed by rig makers, lure makers, charter operators, and experienced anglers alike. Simply put, they are among the finest hooks we have ever used.
In late 2024, Maph and Kona began collaborating to develop these unique Glow Flasher Hooks, with each glow flasher individually hand-tied to a premium Kona hook. The result is a hook that is exceptionally sharp, holds its edge, offers excellent corrosion resistance, is perfectly tempered, and most importantly, catches fish. Demand throughout Australia and New Zealand has grown rapidly during 2026, reflecting the confidence anglers have in their performance.
Available in both Circle and snag-reduced Mutsu patterns, these hooks are ready to fish straight out of the packet. The integrated glow flasher eliminates the need to add extra accessories, helping reduce drag while providing an attractive presentation.
This is just the beginning. Keep an eye out for the expanding range of Kona hooks and terminal tackle that will be joining the Maph lineup in the near future.
