I've been so inspired by you crazy gravel grinders that I recently took off on a big gravel ride with my dad - admittedly with engines instead of pedals ๐Ÿ˜„

Strava didn't like being left running for 14 days straight so the screenshot shown here is the last progress shot I got ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

2 weeks
3 states
305 litres of fuel
6,624km - 67% of which was offroad.

(The dirt roads we had planned for the run back across WA were all obliterated by the storm and closed ๐Ÿ˜ฉ)

We took in the Rawlinson, Flinders, Gammon and Gawler ranges and too many other places to list. All spectacular, all isolated, all to ourselves.

We mixed bush camping in incredibly remote areas with good old caravan parks and truck stops.

And of course, I slowed down and offered big thumbs up to the crazy folks we saw cycling the Eyre Hwy (two of them INTO the wind!! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ)

Oof....what a weapon!

Canyon Lux in for full fork and shock rebuilds + fresh chain and cassette.

Mechanical XTR is exquisite. I'd have that over Di2 every day of the week.

Spokespeople: The week beginning the 4th of May (yeah yeah, May the 4th...) is starting to fill up with pre-SEVEN Gravel Race prep work.

Even if you THINK you might need some work done, please make your booking. There is absolutely no problem if you decide to cancel it (preferably not the night before if you can help it) - so go for it ๐Ÿ‘

We've blogged about race prep here already - have a read.

A Facebook memory popped up today, a photo taken by a gentleman who lots of you will know and remember as John Pizzey.

I first met John in the very early days of TLS, he frequently had small, odd jobs for me and we got along well. John was fluent in witty banter, and I enjoyed every interaction we ever had.

John was also jointly responsible for inviting me along to my first Rove Ride as the traveling mechanic - something I remain incredibly proud of and remember fondly.

John also invited me along to participate in the Bullsbrook - Toodyay ride, when I was still very new to road cycling. I brought precisely one water bottle and no food. Someone handed me a banana out of pity on the return journey.

John snapped this photo of me, sat on the bitumen in mismatched socks, utterly spent but very happy with the ride. I'd never really done a big hills ride like this before. It was a pivotal moment for me and I really, really started to love cycling after this.

By now I'd normally have a point or a punchline to deliver - but instead tonight I find myself just enjoying the memory of some of the wonderful people I've met over the last almost-decade.

Thank you John. ๐Ÿค

4 minutes after I enjoyed the peace and quiet up near the trailhead, I tore a tread block clean off the carcass of my rear tyre which resulted in a VERY long uphill walk back to the car ๐Ÿคฃ

Confession Time: Having space at TLS HQ these past few years made me really, really slack with tools and bike storage at home ๐Ÿ˜ž

I used to be a "steady rack for every bike" kinda guy, with the corresponding IKEA 6x2 box unit next to it holding helmets and shoes.

Things are simpler these days. The Optic and the Sight now cuddle up together down one end of the bench at home.

What does your bike storage situation look like at home?
