Saturdays are now open for the next generation of creatives… while still welcoming our regulars who know and love the class.

Children and grandchildren are invited to join for a relaxed, hands-on sewing session where creativity meets practical skill-building. It is a chance to learn, explore, and create in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Designed for ages 8 and up, each session blends guidance with creativity, helping bring projects to life while building confidence along the way.

A morning centred around creativity, community, and connection.

Join us on the 4th Thursday and Friday of each month for our Beginner Embroidery Class and enjoy a creative, inspiring, and welcoming sewing experience at Janome Balcatta.

Each month features a new project designed to help you build skills, learn techniques, and create something beautiful to take home.

There’s something special about sewing that can’t be rushed.

It’s found in choosing the perfect fabric, matching colours, pressing each seam and watching a simple idea gradually become something beautiful.

Join Our Sewing Classes in Balcatta, Perth!

Sessions run Monday to Saturday from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, and each class is $35 per session. Bring a machine, bring the materials and settle in for a relaxed morning of sewing at your own pace. Guidance is available from the team whenever support is needed.

Tea, coffee and water are always on hand to keep the creativity flowing. A welcoming space, friendly faces and plenty of inspiration are ready for anyone looking to learn, practise or simply enjoy time behind the machine.

A gentle warning, though… once the creativity starts rolling, the only thing harder than threading a needle is trying to leave on time.

Have you ever turned a cushion cover, tote bag or placemat right side out, only to end up with rounded or bulky corners?

A few simple techniques can make all the difference.

✂️ Stop with the needle down when you reach the corner. Lift the presser foot, pivot the fabric 90 degrees, lower the foot and continue sewing. This helps create a crisp, accurate corner.

✂️ Trim the seam allowance diagonally across the corner before turning your project right side out. Be careful not to cut through your stitches. Removing that excess fabric reduces bulk.

✂️ Gently push out the corner using a point turner or a blunt tool. Avoid sharp objects, as they can poke through the fabric.

✂️ Press the finished corner with an iron. A quick press helps define the shape and gives your project a polished, professional finish.

• The wrong needle for your fabric.

• A needle that’s been inserted incorrectly.
