August - September is a transitional season in Perth, with lots to do in the garden before the rains leave and the weather warms.
πͺ± Give your soil some love and prepare to plant your warmer weather annuals. Add mature compost, and any other amendments your soil might need. Might be worth testing your pH if you haven't in a while.
π±Get summer crops like tomatoes, eggplant and melons started early by sowing indoors in seedling trays.
πΏ Use the nutrients from the weeds growing in your garden. Chop and drop before they go to seed, or toss them on your compost. Use an oscillating hoe or other gentle weeding tool to minimise disturbance to soil life.
π Protect new growth on your citrus trees from citrus gall wasp by using a kaolin spray. Hang traps to monitor populations of fruit fly. If you notice cabbage white butterflies as the weather warms, consider using netting to protect susceptible crops.
