Meet the Designer Rani Tsolakis, advanced diploma graduate from

Rani is the creative force behind a label known for its sustainable approach and beautifully “perfectly imperfect” designs.

Rani’s work celebrates individuality through handcrafted, layered, and intuitively designed garments and accessories. Using upcycled textiles, she transforms overlooked materials into one-of-a-kind statement pieces that challenge traditional ideas of perfection in fashion.

Her innovative talent was recognised in late 2024 when she was awarded the Bronze Medal for Fashion Technology at the WorldSkills Regional Awards held at Crown Perth.

With a strong focus on sustainability and experimental design, Rani is creating fashion that is thoughtful, bold, and impossible to replicate.

💫 Designer Spotlight: Meet Lydia Stevens, a designer on the rise, graduate Lydia Stevens of Lidia Collections is one to watch.

Having seen Lydia’s work firsthand and know her personally I can say her garment construction is impeccable — every piece reflects incredible technical skill, precision, and creative vision.

Lydia is making waves with her stunning “Oasis” collection, where spa-inspired elegance meets functional design. Her unique take on resort wear blends relaxation with sophistication, creating pieces that feel as beautiful as they look.

Her talent has already been recognised on a major stage, earning GOLD in Visual Merchandising at the WorldSkills Regional Awards, with her work also featured in SMTAFE Fashion’s 2023 and 2024 showcases.

The event start this Friday and last until Sunday, May 10—what a fabulous way to celebrate Mother’s Day! I was captivated by the amazing Bryce Heyworth of September Studios hearing about the gorgeous collaborative pieces he crafted for this event. A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful Kate Foster and for a beautiful and memorable night. Be sure to visit Subi this weekend and experience the magic—I know I’ll be there! 💖🌼

Introducing the Designer graduate Lucy Brookes of

Lucy is inspired by the lively aesthetic of the 1970s, a transformative decade rich with cultural and fashion evolution. Her creations blend aspects of glam rock, sci-fi, and pop culture, paying homage to icons like Queen, T. Rex, and Suzi Quatro, as well as cult classic films such as Flash Gordon Barbarella, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Her collection features an array of vibrant fabrics adorned with bold contrasts in prints and textures. Lucy innovates by dyeing materials and applying hand-drawn imagery through screen or digital printing. The interplay of clashing colors and patterns is a hallmark of her style, where thoughtful choices create a sense of balance amid chaos. She also experiments with varied textures, incorporating pleather, s**g, and sequins to evoke a modern interpretation of 1970s aesthetics.

Designer Highlight: Graduate Grayson Fitzpatrick from

Grayson Fitzpatrick’s collection explores mutation and how to manipulate the body beyond its natural limits. It challenges traditional ideas of form and beauty with exaggerated silhouettes, abstract seamlines, and unconventional textile treatments. Accessories enhance the theme of transformation, creating a dialogue between architecture, mutation, and evolving identity.

Inspired by the Metabolism movement and Kisho Kurokawa’s Nakagin Capsule Tower, Grayson is also influenced by science fiction narratives like Arcane and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

His design process involves research and sketches that guide the development of construction and textile samples. Grayson focuses on material transformation, creating a lightweight textile that mimics leather by repurposing leftover polyester linings and applying screen-printing ink for texture, reflecting his commitment to sustainability.
