This pair of men’s lace up boots presented with worn out soles that were lifting, broken up rand and inner boards, and some missing cast metal hardware at the top of the boot, meaning it couldn’t be laced up. We removed the old soles, rand and inner boards. We cut new inner boards, secured new shanks to replace the broken ones, and fitted them inside the boots. As we didn’t have a suitable last available, we used the original sole as a template, checking the fit on the inner boards to make sure the shoe was exactly the right size and shape. We applied new stitched rand and a beige resin midsole, which was blake stitched to the boots. We used lightweight Vibram Betulla unit soles for comfort and grip, bonding with Renia cdc. The brittle hardware was removed and replaced with D rings to allow the boots to be laced up. The edges were hand sanded, dyed and waxed, then rubbed back, making the contrasting midsole pop. Finally the boots were treated with to nourish the leather and preserve the original patina.

This pair of favourite boots presented with a protector sole that had lifted. It had been applied to a TR sole that was breaking down. The customer wanted to save these boots, but didn’t want to change the look at all. We removed the old material, making sure to keep the rand intact. New half leather soles were grafted in, bonding with Renia cdc and blake stitching. We wrapped the heel blocks with new leather veneer, painting and sanding to create an aged patina like the originals. The heel blocks were secured using buttress nails and the boots were finished with protector soles and top lifts. The edges were painted and sanded to match the aged look of the boots. Finally, the uppers were treated with leather conditioner to nourish the leather but leave the crackled paint look unchanged.

This pair of presented in need of new soles. We started by breaking down the shoes, removing the heel blocks, soles, cork and stitching. We replaced the cork with Renia cork and bonded Italian leather soles to the shoes using Renia cdc and stitching by hand. We made new heel blocks using stacked leather, and made a leather rubber combo top lift with extreme in caramel, finished with brass nails. The soles got some custom paint using leather paints, inspired by the original Oliver Sweeney colour scheme. The edges were hand sanded, stained and waxed, and the uppers were nourished with shoe cream.

This pair of modern cap toe derby shoes presented in need of new soles. Our customer opted for , and we finally had a job to use up our last pair of original JR soles. We removed the old heel blocks, soles and stitching. We created a template and cut the new soles, bonding with Renia cdc and blake stitching the shoes. The soles got some custom paint using leather paint, deep brown with a subtle rainbow. We secured new heel blocks to the shoes using buttress nails and finished with top lifts. We hand sanded and dyed the edges using leather edge colour, finishing with wax for a high shine. The uppers were in great condition, just a little dry so we cleaned them with Boot Black two face lotion, and nourished them with Boot Black shoe cream, adding some high shine base and coat to the toes, using them with the polish water. This pair of satin sling backs were originally wedding shoes, and by the look of these shoes, it was quite the celebration! Our customer wanted to dye the shoes so she could keep wearing them. We started by removing the insoles and cleaning the shoes to remove any dirt and protector from the material. Once they were dry, we dyed them using leather paint mixed with the soft additive to make it suitable for fabric. We let the shoes dry well and then replaced the elastic in the sling backs to match. We applied protector soles using extreme, and replaced the caramel top lifts with black. After a waterproofing treatment using nano spray, these shoes are ready for a new chapter.
