Our meet-the-author event is less than a week away, so make sure it's in your calendar!

We'll be in the Brew Bar of Durty Nelly’s on Tuesday the 1st September 2026 from 6.30pm with the aussie crime writer Holly Craig Author chatting about her new book Find Me.

If you are keen to hear about the story behind this tense missing person thriller, writing crime fiction set in Australia, and have a chance for Holly Craig to answer your questions, then join us on Tuesday!!

If you've dropped by recently, you'll have seen our sale table in the window with a whole bunch of previous format stock or damaged new stock at discounted prices.

Upcoming author event!!

For the very first day of spring, we will be holding an author event with the WA crime author Holly Craig, for her new book Find Me.

Stef and Holly will have a sit down to discuss this new release, her first dips into crime with her previous books The Shallows and The Rip, and the ways in which all things gothic have influenced the landscape of Australian crime fiction.

When: Tuesday 1st September 2026
6.30 - 8.00pm

Where: Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub Brew Bar

Cost: Free!

Hey folkies!

Our friend and local indie author A.G Charlton is getting ready to launch the third book in his Tomes of Ascension series, Empty Nest.

So, join us at Durty Nelly's Irish Pub on Tuesday July 21st from 6.30 to 8.00 an find out what is in store for our plucky young heroine Syline in an adventure that, according to the author, takes us into darker places than the first two books.

And if you missed those and would like to get on board with the series, you'l be pleased to know that we'll have copies of all three available on the night.

This is a free event, but it is a licensed venue, so the usual stuff for that still applies.

Wanted to make a quick post shouting out Stefen for his Lifetime Achievement in Bookselling award from the ABA.

Stef's not one for putting himself up for awards, but that won't stop the customers who love him doing it for him. Thank you to everyone who wrote testimonials and told stories of Stef's career in bookselling. Apparently we had so many attachments to the nomination that they had to be trimmed down before being accepted!

After almost 35 years in the bookselling game, Stefen has become known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things nerdy, his passion for speculative fiction in all its forms, and his dedication to welcoming his customers into a bookshop made as safe and inclusive as he can.

I was one of these customers for many years before having the opportunity to work at Stefen's Books and am delighted to share in this chance to show my appreciation for all the things Stef does. He's unsurprisingly also a really great boss!

Thanks again to everyone who helped conspire against Stef to get him this recognition in the industry, and thanks to Stef for being such a dedicated bookseller!!

A belated but definitely warm thank you to all the folks who came to our June bookclub/author event with the wonderful duo Angela Slatter aka AG Slatter and Kathleen Jennings

It was amazing to have two wildly different but beautifully gothic books to chat about - Angela’s A Forest Darkly and Kathleen's Honeyeater - from two awesome Aussie authors.

We have a bunch of Angela Slatter's new release, The Sourdough Compendium, in store, as well as a smattering of her previous novels. Come and get the signed ones before they run out!

And we still have some signed copies of Kathleen Jennings' short story collection Kindling, and a couple of signed Mother Thorn books that Kathleen beautifully illustrated for Juliet Marillier's fairytale words!

Thank you to everyone who came to our event for Cameron Sullivan and his debut fantasy novel Red Winter.

It was a joy to chat about writing French history into fantasy, the ecosystems of magic, and all the little tidbits for the history buffs, that made Stef go back to primary sources to check.
