"It all came to a head when at age nine, I got mixed up with a few undesirables and started heading off the rails. I was part of a gang of similarly aged boys who were led astray by the twelve-year-old thugs, which included the notorious Terry Cluff and one of the Myers boys. They enthralled us with a grand plan which sounded easy and profitable: we would raid a goods van as it sat at the railway siding, which contained tea boxes full of lollies and chocolates. We were game, and of course didn’t think twice about the consequences."

"Hail Mary The Creek’s Up is a marvellous tapestry, tracing the Malone family’s journey from Irish immigration to Australia in the 1840s through to the 1950s. Mick skilfully weaves together the rich family history of the extended Malones with the local and national histories of both Ireland and Australia.
True to his background, military history is also threaded naturally through the book, from the Irish Uprising to WWI and WWII."

For many years, readers have asked me what life was like before the Army. The answer is in this book.

'Hail Mary, the Creek's Up' takes me back to a childhood spent on the banks of the Castlereagh River in country New South Wales. It was a time of family, friendships, mischief and plenty of life lessons. It's a story about the people who shaped me long before I wore a uniform, especially the five remarkable women whose love and guidance stayed with me throughout my life.

Writing these memories has been a privilege, and I hope they bring back a few memories of your own.

If you've enjoyed my previous books, thank you for your support. I hope you'll enjoy this journey back to where it all began.

Limited signed copies are now available on my website https://www.mickmalone.com.au/hail-mary
