Five things you might be missing on your tax return this year, brought to you by Tax Shield.
If you wear a uniform with a logo, you're a tradie, you drive between sites, or you've been carrying tools to work, there's a good chance you're leaving money on the table at tax time.

Quick list of things people forget:
✔️ Uniforms with a logo. Hi-vis, hospo shirts, scrubs, branded tees. Claim them, plus what you spend washing them.
✔️ Tools and gear for the job. Boots, knives, shears, anything you actually need to do your work.
✔️ The work portion of your phone bill. Work out roughly how much you use it for the job and claim that share.
✔️ Driving between jobs. Not your home-to-work commute. But driving site to site, or to training, counts.
✔️ Tax agent fees are deductible. Paying someone to do it properly is itself a claim. Pays for itself.

This National Reconciliation Week, we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather, and recognise the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, culture and community.

By Ballardong Noongar artist Rohin Kickett - Dushong art, this work captures the Canning River along Burslem Drive as it leads toward the centre. This is more than a landscape; it is a place of lived experience and memory, where Rohin spent time growing up as a child.

The flowing forms and natural elements speak to the enduring relationship between people and place, a relationship grounded in care for Country, shared histories, and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next. It invites the community to pause, reflect, and consider the deeper stories that exist within the spaces we move through every day.

Robin’s mural raises the importance of listening, learning and engaging with the histories and cultures that have shaped this place long before us.

We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

This week’s throwback takes us straight into 1991 — and you might remember this one 👀⁣

Before smartphones ruled our pockets, payphones ruled the centre. This incredible payphone booth display lived inside Maddington Metro in May 1991, and it was a must‑visit spot for a quick call home.⁣
⁣
As we celebrate our partnership with the City of Gosnells and the Museum by the Shops exhibition, we’re loving the chance to dive into our own history too.⁣

The Maddington Heritage Display is open now at Maddington Central, thanks to the City of Gosnells.

See photographs, artefacts and stories gathered from Maddington over decades. Plus bring in your photographs and to make sure they're memories that last we'll digitise them for free.

Open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm until the 18th of May.

Join the Gosnells RSL for Anzac Day commemorations on Saturday 25 April 🎖️

A march will depart Gosnells Coles car park at 6.40am (please gather from 6.25am) and the Dawn Service will be held at Gosnells War Memorial at 6.55am.

A Gunfire Breakfast will be available for a gold coin donation ☕

🚧 Albany Highway southbound will be closed between Gosnells Road East and Fremantle Road from 6.30am to 7.15am to accommodate the march.

Every Thursday for the next month, we’ll be sharing a series of throwback photos — starting with this classic shot of the original Maddington Metro entrance.

We're turning one store into a museum for a month, and honestly, we can't wait.
From 18 April, in partnership with the City of Gosnells, a Maddington Heritage Display comes to Maddington Central.

Photographs, artefacts and stories you've probably never heard about the place you visit every week.
Did you know Maddington was once home to one of Western Australia's most famous racehorse estates, owned by John Randall Phillips and known across the colony for breeding the state's finest thoroughbreds? Or that long before the shops and cafes, the Canning River carved out the rich farmland that drew people in across the centuries? It's all there to explore, layer by layer.

And here's the part we love most. If you've got old family photos of the Maddington area sitting in a shoebox or tucked into the back of a drawer, bring them in. We'll digitise them for you, for free, so those memories are safe for the next generation.

Open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm.

School holidays sorted. 🎨

These April school holidays, Maddington Central is running free drop-in craft sessions for the kids — no bookings, no prep needed. Just turn up, get creative, and let them burn some energy.

This week and next, Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm, you'll find two activities running:
🌧️ Grumpy Raincloud Craft — because sometimes a grumpy little cloud is exactly the right energy
☁️ Cloud Dough Workshop — the softest, squishiest craft material known to small humans

Maddington foodcourt has had a makeover and so has South Metropolitan TAFE! Our previous foodcourt furniture was rehomed has been put to good use in student areas, providing them with a fresh look and allowing SM TAFE to move on some of their older furniture.

This past weekend marked Clean Up Australia’s 35th year!

Australia uses about 2.5 million tonnes of plastic each year, roughly 100kg per person, with much of it ending up in landfill or drifting into the ocean.

Clean Up Australia helps reduce this by coordinating local clean ups that remove litter before it reaches waterways.
Whilst Saturday marked the 35th year, Clean Up Australia encourage you to volunteeer or hold an event any day of the year! Find a location or clean up event in your area easily on their website.
