Terroir Tea Merchant

Terroir Tea Merchant We believe that true tea enjoyment is a fully learned response and understanding terroir holds the key.

Terroir is a French term that describes the relationship between a growing region and its end product. The choice of cultivar, where it’s grown, how it responds to the environment and weather conditions all influence tea flavours and aromas. From the mountains in subtropical Taiwan to the temperate plains of India and beyond, we personally source terroir based artisanal teas that take you to anoth

er place and heighten the senses. The more you know about your tea, the more enlightened your tea experience will be.

This is a message we never thought we'd be posting. Unfortunately, Terroir Tea Merchant has closed and our tea journey has come to an end. This time was very different with being online only, but we still had the support of many people and the great relationships with our tea growers.

We've enjoyed sourcing amazing teas and sharing them with Australians who appreciate a quality cuppa. Devoted tea enthusiasts in Canada savoured our teas from afar, and we loved continuing the connections we made in the tea salon.

Thank you to our tea friends and followers for celebrating tea with us and for being a part of our journey.

We heard that 2026 is the new 2016. Many people are posting throwback images from 10 years ago and we're happy to take part in the trend.

2016 was our first year at Terroir Tea Salon in Victoria, BC Canada. This collection reflects some of the experiences in the tea salon that year:

- tea flights (top right)
- chocolate and tea pairings (middle right)
- how to create a chai blend workshop (bottom right)
- cheese and tea pairing workshop (bottom left)
- food tour tastings (middle left)
- high tech brewing in our Steampunk machine (top left).

We love getting nostalgic for 2016. It was a great year in the tea salon that we'll always remember.

Every new year health and wellness articles flood the news channels. Green tea is often a topic with health benefits including weight loss, reducing inflammation and blood pressure, and cancer fighting properties.

We're not medical professionals, so we won't claim that green tea will help in these ways. What quality green tea does give you is an appreciation for what's in your cuppa.

We have Lung Ya from Taiwan and Arakai Spring Flush Green from Australia. Both are single estate, pure loose leaf tea. And contrary to popular belief, neither green tea tastes bitter. They're floral, fruity, vegetal and fresh.

All tea leaves have L-theanine, an amino acid with a calming effect that can reduce stress. One resolution that you can easily keep in 2026 is taking the time to brew, relax and enjoy quality loose leaf tea.

The holiday season is here! Although we're celebrating in the tropics, we'll still be enjoying tea.

Our Indonesian Silver Needle and Nepali Silver Thunder are fruity and refreshing when cold brewed. Add some cranberries to the brew for festive flare and colour. Perfect for non-drinkers and those sitting at the kids table, no matter if it's cold or hot outside.

During our White Christmas sale from 25 to 31 December, you'll save 25% on these teas. Orders will be shipped when postal outlets return to regular hours.

Have a safe and happy holiday! In 2026, may your cuppa always be filled with great tea that brings you joy.

It's Throwback Thursday in Australia and we're sharing images from 10 years ago. We celebrated Halloween in the tea salon by dressing up as a witch who brewed ghoulish teas in the Steampunk. The window was decorated with a large bowl of treats for people to guess how many to win all of them.

For Halloween tomorrow, we'll brew Black Ruby. It's our favourite black tea with natural flavours of cinnamon, mint and malt sugar. That's spooktacular! Happy Halloween 🎃

It seems October is when big things happen. We opened Terroir Tea Salon in Victoria, BC Canada on October 11, 2015. After closing in 2018, we reopened our business online from Australia on October 20, 2021.

In October 2025, the big things are affecting where we can send tea orders. We can't ship to Canada because Canada Post is on strike. Again. We're not shipping to the USA because we don't want to be charged tariffs that we'd have to add to tea orders.

A positive thing this month is Alishan High Mountain Eco Roasted Beauty is almost sold out. Only 2 packages left! We love this tea too. If you're in Canada and don't want to miss out on this amazing oolong or any of our low stock teas, we will hold all orders until the postal strike is over. Again.

We created a Limited stock collection on our website that shows the teas we're almost out of. Several are Alishan High Mountain oolongs. Because the terroir and tea processing methods change with every harvest, so do the flavours and aromas. Once these unique oolongs are gone, we can't restock them. Don't miss out on your favourites!

We have three new black teas from India!

Darjeeling lovers will enjoy our Giddapahar SFTGFOP Second Flush. This tea garden grows original China bushes that give the tea liquor a creamy mouthfeel. The muscatel flavour and aroma create a quintessential Darjeeling experience.

Our Second Flush Organic Mahalderam SFTGFOP1 comes from the highest Darjeeling tea garden. It's muscatel, earthy and walnut flavours are impressive.

Hattialli Golden Tippy Assam is produced from the Panetola 126 cultivar, which is grown in select Assam gardens. This cultivar is known for producing a tea with an abundance of golden tips. With malt, baked bread, oak, sweet potato and dried apricot flavours it's certainly a second flush Assam in a class of its own.
