It’s time for another thrilling episode of “Out the door on a Friday and where it lands, it lands”. In tonight’s instalment, I engage “stank face” whilst bending notes in a pentatonic manner, relegate tuning before recording to being optional as opposed to optimal, and use the whammy bar whilst pretending to be Beff Jeck. Tonight I’m riding on Mestric Guitars serial 017, which is a M5758 and has an Alder body with a Maple neck. The pickups are hand-wound as always by yours truly. Bridge pickup with the tone rolled off a bit into a MXR Zakk Wylde OD and Fender Hot Rod DeVille. Happy Friday!

Here’s an old USA B.C.Rich I’ve just finished refretting. The frets were worn but the bigger issue was how badly messed up the radius was from a previous refret done many years ago. It was as flat as 30” in places. After correcting the board, I gave in a light coat of TruOil and installed some new Jescar 57110 Nickel frets. Now it’s ready to melt faces again. Last three photos are the “before” shots.

Here’s another personal bass (private sale, no GST) I’m moving on as I have something else coming to replace it. It’s a 1978 Fender Jazz Bass. Sounds and plays great and I have been using it recently for gigs. Setup for flats currently. Everything appears to be original except the nut has been changed at some point as has the G string saddle. Original thumb rest is in the reissue (non original) vintage Fender hard case. There are some pickup and bridge covers in the case, but I’m not sure if they are original to the bass. I happy to pack it for shipping if you pay for and arrange courier pickup. Here’s another personal instrument that I’m moving on in preparation to moving my workshop, but also, it just doesn’t get used anymore. It’s a 2009 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Dennis Galuszka 1966 Jazz Bass. I bought it in 2013 in Vegas from a dealer. It was a touring bass made for Lenny Kravitz’s bass player (an exact copy of his original ‘66). I confirmed this in person with Dennis at a Custom Shop function at NAMM the following year. I’ve also attached a screen grab from Fender’s dealer portal serial search function. It includes the bridge and pickup covers. Currently the bridge volume pot is seized up but I will change that out before it goes out. The G String saddle has also been changed out. The broken original is in the case. It plays great and putting aside the cool backstory, it’s still a Masterbuilt bass at a much more attractive price than new and without the 2-4 year wait time.
