One Minute Read : Famous Rings AHistory Snapshot!

Tudor jewellery appears rough around the edges as you’d imagine given how much jewellery making has evolved. Diamonds weren’t really cut but shaped around, the way they grew as crystals. This is clear from the first ring! 💎

The second picture is one of the only remaining pieces of jewellery that exist belonging to Elizabeth I : it’s called the Chequers ring. It comprises of a mother of pearl hoop set with a layer of gold in which rubies and diamonds are set, there is a locket section with two portraits one of Elizabeth herself and the second portrait has been attributed to Anne Boleyn ( her mother who was executed when Elizabeth was just two) but this has been challenged. The ring also features a phoenix in enamel, a popular motif. She was said to be very attached to the ring, and it was removed from her when she died in 1603. It is on display at Chequers in England.

A little bit of history on the Gypsy ring which has become the ring of the moment! ( again)

Gypsy rings were very popular in the Victorian period, and while you might think the name indicates a connection to Roma culture it referred to the setting of the diamonds or gemstone flush to the metal. They were considered ‘wandering’ and not set in claws and above the shank of the ring.

The stones were often surrounded by a star imbuing the ring with meaning of ‘good luck’ and you are ‘my star’ as well as particular emotions symbolized by the gemstones themselves diamond for eternal love, ruby for passion and sapphire for wisdom and virtue.

If you swipe left there is an example of one. They are great rings if you don’t have a budget of thousands, because smaller stones grouped together can be pretty and impactful.

Nearly all the rings that find their new hand homes are re-sized, either up or down.

Our trusty jewellers cut into the ring and either put a small piece in to make it bigger or take a small piece out to make smaller…(they never stretch it)

The only ring that can’t be re-sized is like this first pic a full diamond platinum eternity band, or a piece with a detailed engraved pattern. The second pic is a classic diamond moi et toi ring that is ideal for re-sizing…⭐️
