WE DID IT — 1 HOUR FREE PARKING CONTINUES!

Thanks to a motion put forward by Mayor Stephen Jolly, Bridge Road’s 1 Hour Free Parking is alive for another 12 months! 🙌

A huge thank you to the Councillors who supported the motion, and to every trader, resident, customer and supporter who stood behind this campaign.

Nearly 6,200 people signed our petition, and last night Bridge Road traders turned up in force to make sure their voices were heard.

This is what happens when a community stands together and speaks with one voice. ❤️

We now have another 12 months to build on the trial, promote it strongly and demonstrate the difference convenient parking can make to our local businesses and our precinct.

Thank you, Bridge Road. You made a difference.

TOMORROW: AN IMPORTANT VOTE FOR BRIDGE ROAD
Tomorrow night, City of Yarra Councillors will decide the future of 1-Hour Free Parking.
Our petition has now reached an incredible 6,163 signatures & still growing — and Council’s own data gives us even more reason to keep going.

- Bridge Road visitation UP 25.26% — 37,000 additional visits
- 45–60 minute parking visits UP around 350%
- Drivers spend an average $96 per visit on Bridge Road
- Yet 71% of drivers didn’t even know the first hour was FREE.

Despite seven out of ten drivers being unaware of the trial, 37,000 additional visits were recorded.
So why stop now?

A trial needs time. Awareness creates repeat visits. Repeat visits become habits — and habits build stronger local shopping streets.

The answer isn't to abandon 1-Hour Free Parking.
Retain it. Promote it. Build awareness. Give it the opportunity to deliver its full potential.

🚨 6,138 PEOPLE HAVE SAID YES — NOW WE NEED YOU TO STAND WITH US! 🚨
KEEP THE FIRST HOUR FREE!

This Tuesday, Yarra Council will vote on whether to end the 1-hour free parking trial on Bridge Road and other Yarra shopping streets.

We’re asking traders, residents, customers, workers and everyone who supports our local shopping streets to join us for a peaceful show of support outside Richmond Town Hall.

More than 6,138 people have already signed our petition calling on Council to keep the first hour free.

Now we need Council to hear us.

Small businesses and households are doing it tough. Council can’t control interest rates, inflation or the broader economy — but it can control parking.

One hour free helps:
🏪 Local businesses by making it easier for customers to visit
🏠 Local residents by reducing the cost of shopping locally
🚗 Visitors to come into Yarra and spend money in our local economy

Council’s own research found that people arriving by car on Bridge Road spend $96 per visit — almost twice as much as people arriving on foot or public transport.

Our message is simple:
6,138 SAY YES TO FREE PARKING.

BRIDGE ROAD HAS SPOKEN — LISTEN TO YOUR COMMUNITY.
