The timber’s soft, greyed oak colour is deep enough to complement the original stone fireplace, but still gentle enough to keep the rooms bright and open. Natural knots and grain give each board its own character, guiding your eye through the hallway and up the stairs without taking away from the simple architecture. Material choices play a key role in how Brooke Hogan’s home feels.

The home was designed for calm, lasting comfort, and family life. It blends gentle coastal touches with natural stone, timber, muted colours, and textured details. Instead of using lots of decoration, the space gets its character from its shapes, textures, and the subtle differences between surfaces.

Ceppo Sicilia natural stone adds depth and a lasting feel to the home, while Woodcut Voss timber brings warmth, softness, and comfort underfoot. These materials work well together: the stone adds elegance and energy, and the timber makes the space feel grounded and welcoming.

Morning in the Nunawading Residence kitchen starts with soft light bouncing off white cabinetry and landing on Woodcut’s Moss from the French Collection below. The dark herringbone floor grounds that light rather than reflecting it sharply, reading warm even at its darkest. By evening, the mood shifts entirely. The dining room takes over, black cross-back chairs pulled up to a timber table, candlelight catching the same deep, grained oak that runs from room to room.

Moss stays consistent where it matters most; its tone doesn‘t waver between the crisp, functional kitchen and the softer, more formal dining space next door. It simply adjusts to the light in the room, staying grounded through every hour of the day.

Light runs the show at the Tusmore Residence. It arrives through the entry skylight first thing, drops down the white walls and lands on the herringbone below, Woodcut‘s Thistle from the Premium Collection, its smoky European Oak catching the morning in shifting tones of grey and brown. By afternoon, the dining space takes over, the raked ceiling and high glazing filling the room with sun while the garden sits framed beyond the sliders.

Through all of it, Thistle holds the low ground. Its darker, storied character gives the bright white architecture something to push against, the contrast that makes the light feel like light. Where paler floors would have let this home drift toward weightlessness, Thistle keeps it rooted, warm and lived-in, the herringbone adding movement underfoot from the front door to the dining table.

Morning in the Tusmore Palms residence starts on the lower level with coffee, the fireplace low, and bare feet on Woodcut’s Lumen from the Premium Collection. The floor is pale and smooth underfoot. Its Ash grain catches the early light through the garden-facing glazing and holds it throughout the room. By midday, the house has opened up. The kitchen is running, the marble island is spread with a full meal, and the step up from living to dining feels like moving between two distinct spaces that still belong to the same home.

Lumen makes that possible. Its consistent, luminous tone runs from the lowest point of the living floor up through the split-level platform, across the kitchen and dining area, and into every corner of the home without interruption. It is the material decision that gives Tusmore Palms its sense of wholeness.

You finish work, walk in, and the room relaxes you. The dark joinery, veined stone, and concrete ceiling should feel heavy, but don‘t. Much of that is thanks to what’s underfoot.

Woodcut‘s Hazel from the Premium Collection runs through this Balwyn North residence by Sync Architecture. The wide, warm boards create a welcoming kitchen atmosphere, grounding the room even as other elements draw attention upward. Their tactile warmth and natural finish make the space truly inviting for cooking, eating, and lingering after dinner.
