Don’t be this fella, stealing firewood, getting caught out and having to go through the shame of having to unload it after stealing what isn’t yours.

You can see the moment with his head down where it kicks in.

If ya in desperate times, we have some pits full of mulch and stuff, with a decent effort, you can come fill ya Ute or trailer for free, with stuff that will keep you warm, but you’ll need to do some work to pick it out. It’s good stuff too, it’s dry, unlike what old mate here is pilfering, it’s green wood 😂

Few pics in comments for a giggle.

All through winter we’d been asked why no advertising? Well, simply put, processing was at 7 days a week and we were maxed out.

We’ve now finally got some split stock built up, 50/50 mixed truck loads for $2100

https://rosedalefirewood.com.au/Wood-by-Truck-50-50-Blend-Free-Delivery-p375584416

Get in quick on these ones as they won’t last!

This is a firewood mix of local mixed species, NSW Grey/redbox, can also be Redgum if you so desire, or a mix of both, giving you the easy to relight and quick flare of local wood and the dense all night burning wood. True half and half mix! Truck is 10.75m3 Bin capacity, sides are extended as NHVR....

Delivery! An often asked question.

Yes we do deliver, to many many customers. But just to give some insight, as to why there can be a cost involved.

Essentially the truck runs at a cost of $2/km one way, let’s take a 50km delivery for example.

The truck uses an average of 22.5l/100km more laden, less unladen, actually to be accurate 26l/100km laden and 19/100km unladen as an average.

This works out to be around $50 in diesel alone to complete the trip, plus costs of wages, truck maintenance and upkeep you can see how this adds up fast! That delivery will take at a minimum 1.5hrs, likely closer to 2 with loading, unloading, roadworks, etc.

What we often do is combine deliveries, usually 2-3 at once in a similar area. This then offsets the cost between customers, however this requires a little time and planning!

Please understand as we often get asked will we will deliver to areas that are quite a distance away and small quantities, the same day, sometimes it’s hard to be obliging as simply put, it’s not financially viable.

We do have many customers in outer reaches, they will show interest in when we next visit the area, they would like wood delivered and we reach out prior to heading their direction, it works well for all parties!

So if you’d like delivery, please plan ahead as best you can!

You can see pics of our jerry can being refilled, this happens often, it’s no longer a cheap exercise!

Hopefully that helps explain delivery costs somewhat!

Something we notice in our bagged firewood sales, which is concerning. Essentially kindling sales sky rocket! We set many cages up and supply fantastic retailers with our bagged wood. We try to stock the cages with an amount that roughly equalises wood vs kindling sales, this means we gain efficiency by having to do less drops, making it both more profitable for us and keeping costs down for the end consumer. But!

Kindling is getting cleaned out at a rapid rate now! The likely causes are that 1. Your firewood is simply not seasoned well enough or 2. Your heater requires some love.

Is you baffle plate in good condition? Is your flue clear? Is your wood seasoned?

Please understand if you have been unfortunate enough to by wood that is not seasoned well, it will be hard to light, turn black and produce minimal heat.

What’s the best thing to do? After making sure your heater is ok, take that semi seasoned wood, stack it outside for next year, don’t waste your money trying to burn it this year, it takes heat from the fire to remove the moisture in the wood, this turns to creosote in your flue. This costs you money and is a false economy. Don’t discard the wood, it’s all useable but please let it season. It requires to be exposed to…you guessed it, the seasons to dry correctly to use as fuel in your heater. Wind, rain and sun, these are the best things to achieve this, preferably off the ground however. Plenty of places giving away free pallets you can stack on! Or if you’d like to get fancy we can supply some conveyor belt from us.

Often we have people come and buy our wood to burn with there “cheap” wood. We always advise to simply not burn it this year, but let it season, whilst we may get more sales when you mix ours with it, it’s not good value for the customer, it also leads to other issues, such as smoke haze, particulate emissions and the push to ban wood heaters.

Burn dry wood as fuel, your heater, your wallet, your neighbours will all thank you for it!

Pensioner grants/rebates available.

With our silly season well under way, thought we would again share this, as it seems not alot know what is available if you are a pensioner. There are two available grants/rebates available to those whom qualify for those using firewood for home heating and on a pension.

How we can assist? we provide a Tax Invoice, GST registered as a legitimate firewood merchant, all wood correctly sourced. if you are eligible for the NURGS grant, we simply ask for the application number, once this is emailed to us with your details, we can supply you with firewood, we then complete the rest.

Please read here for more information and contact details to apply.

Firewood seasoning.

Here is an example of wood that appears “ready to burn” we took this in, was a deal with conveyor belt we sell and nothing against the guy that supplied, we would of believed it was fit to burn ourselves, but that’s why we check!

Story goes, this is cut from large logs, dead for 7-8 years, but only just cut and split in to firewood.

You can see from the pictures it’s aged, in the log form.

So the burn test begins, huge coal bed, heater fully open, you can see the heater refueled with the pieces of firewood, reasonable engulfment and later, it has essentially gone black and the heat output has dropped significantly. The fire is using a huge portion of energy to dry the wood, so it can burn, this creates creasote build up in the flue, particulate emissions also.

It will be good firewood….next season!

Always make sure you can try the wood before you buy and if you get firewood like this, please do not try burn it this season, or mix with wood to “get through it” it’s still good firewood, stack it outside in the weather open and airy, let it season properly! Then burn it, you’ll get much more value from it, plus not doing harm by adding ammunition to the push to ban all wood heaters.

Oh, plus random cat, that was found in the yard as a tiny kitten, stealing a seat after giving up what was once it’s warm spot under the fireplace after the heat dropped….and wanting attention 😂

So we’ve decided to try show some examples of why buying quality wood is better than buying “cheap” wood.

Whilst a lot think that buying cheap woods like mountain ash and plantation bluegum is best for their pocket. It’s not really the case

Here we show a time stamped comparison of mountain ash, vs nsw boxwood.

Keep in mind, that this doesn’t show the additional benefits of the dense heavy woods, more yellow flame, vs hot coaly blue flame means more heat output from the dense wood. Way less often you have to refuel, generally twice a day, as opposed to 3 or 4, much less fuel needed each refuel etc.

You’ll see the time stamp of not one but 2 pieces of mountain ash in the same duration, all pieces sourced from outside, in the cold, each of similar size.

You’ll note both have good engulfment, then the dense wood will go to coal, the light wood is always flamier…it’s prettier to look at. The raw coal and blue flame, blue being a much hotter flame, tends to throw more heat.

Of course this is not the correct way to fire your slow combustion heater. But for comparative measure.

We believe that firewood such as mountain ash and plantation bluegum are of great use…..it’s for kindling of course 😂 or relighting from minimal coals where the dense woods don’t take as easily.

Third piece of mountain ash was considering, but decided to get the fire roaring, as the next test is thermal comfort with drinks 👍

Anyway, hard wood that lasts all night is well worth it 😍

Firewood season is well underway, averaging 2.5 truckloads out per day. 50/50 mix of local and heavy NSW boxwood/QLD ironbark going like crazy!

Hitting about 80% repeat and 20% new customers at the moment, great to see so much uptake in those that were happy last year coming back again, thanks!

For me info, please see here:

Hi All,

After what has been a great year, its time to add a few changes after review, during the off season we are going to close Tuesday and Wednesday, this affords everyone time to do other things. Appointments outside hours are still welcome when possible.

We are essentially limiting most other items outside of Firewood, we have found that sand is a very low volume product, unfortunately It spoils in the pits with debris, so have chosen to cease this product and utilise the space for more firewood.

We will keep stock of Road base, Rock dust, Screenings are likely to fade away too, again, these are simply very slow moving and having what needs to stay a very clean product spoil ends up becoming a cost to us as a business.

We will keep one pit with soil/mulch for gardens.

We are on the way to starting new sheds out the back, to add to our Caravan Storage, we are currently at capacity Indoors, Stage 1 of shedding will allow a further 36 Vans to be stored in secure, undercover, Stage 2 a further 46.

As for Firewood, we moved just on 40 B Doubles of Firewood, with just under 20,000kms in the delivery truck. Anywhere from Nyora, Drouin, Meeniyan, Port Welshpool, all the way across to Mallacoota!
