With the new Queensland e-bike laws due to commence on July 1st there is still much discussion regarding e-trikes. We're confident there will be an approval process in place well before the end of the transition period. So confident in fact that we have fitted a C*C Photon Gen 2 motor to one of our ICE demonstration trikes.

Loaded with C*C Motor's 250 watt EN15194 compliant software we do not anticipate any trouble gaining the special EPAC compliance label.

Like the Shimano/Bosch and similar motors, the Photon G2 EPAC is not short on power.

After two committee sittings and thousands of submissions from QLD cyclists, the new Queensland E-mobility Bill passed in Parliament on the 4th June 26, and it will have an impact on the Recumbent e-cycle community. This post is really aimed at Queenslanders, but other state residents should probably take notice and pay attention to what your legislators are thinking.

• EPAC Speed limits introduced for e-assist cycles of 12kmh on footpaths and when passing pedestrians on shared paths. Existing speed limits for bikeways and shared paths remain unchanged.
• PMD speed limits introduced of 12kmh on footpaths and when passing pedestrians on shared paths, or 25kmh otherwise. Effective 1 July 2026
• The definition contained in the Act (Schedule 4) of a power assisted bicycle changes to only recognise EN15194 Electrically Power Assisted Cycles (EPAC) compliant cycles. Effective 1 July 2026.
• The Regulation is changed to more narrowly define an EPAC as meeting the standard current at time of manufacture. This impacts trikes as the current EN15194 standard only recognises two wheel bicycles. E-assist trikes become illegal for road and related area use. Effective 1 July 2026 with transition period to 28 Feb 2027 for compliance.
• Legacy and Special Purpose EPAC provisions created. Existing e-trikes will need to have compliance proved under the legacy provision, future trikes under the special purpose provision. Effective 28 Feb 2027.

ICE Sprint X Tour for sale, not ours but one where we are acting as an agent for the sale. The present owner will have the final say in the sale price…

Sprint X Tour full suspension, colour grey, Ergo-lux seat, Rohloff 14 speed hub and Bafang 750 watt mid drive e-assist with 48V20Ah battery. Drum brakes, headrest, rear suspension pannier rack and top rack, wrist rests, rear mudguard, front mudguards, assistance handles, 2 mirrors Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres and ICE flag.

Excellent condition. Assistance handles, front mudguards and mirrors not fitted for photos.

Full service just carried out and all those usual niggly little things corrected. The Bafang odometer shows 768 km (but that would be from whenever the e-kit was installed). The power output is dialled back to 250W but still provides sparkling performance.

An equivalent new build from ICE would be $13372 plus GST and Duty but excluding e-assist.

We have two ICE demonstration trikes available for immediate collection, an Adventure 20, and Sprint X Tour. Both trikes present “as new” and have very limited km on them. Both have 3 x 10 drivetrain, helping hands assist handles, easy adjust kit (chain gobbler), headrest, mirror, ICE flag, and rear mudguard. Only the Sprint has a rear rack.

ICE Trikes continue to innovate, and the recently introduced hand cycles are no exception. I see many features on these handcycles that address issues I've noted with other brands, and of course the integrated e-assist is extra neat!
While the recent change to e-bike importation rules makes things tricky, we believe there is a way to import without undue difficulty.
