The No-Brush Gamechanger is something we've been playing with for a while now. When you want that full-bodied brush look, they can get rather expensive. Unless you take the brush out of the equation!

Using Congo Hair, we get eight of these 5" flies from a single hank on material. Sure, it takes a little longer, but no one ever sat down to tie a Gamechanger expecting it to be a fast process.

Tied here on a 2190 Native Big Game hook in size 6/0 with Crystal Coat UV Resin holding it all together.

Well, that's it for the '25/'26 Victorian Trout Season, and what a hoot it was. As we've seen in the past, the years after a cormorant plague result it fewer rainbows, and bigger browns. This year was no different.
Sure, it wasn't easy, but there were plenty of good fish to be found if you put in the miles. This was my last fish of the season, and I'm happy to head into winter with this guy to see me off.
Next season should prove to be even better, especially since we saw more smaller fish about that just weren't active the year before. Mother Nature's working things out slowly. Until then, it's off to the lakes for the Winter!

The CXI Special is a fly that so many Aussie fly tyers load into their fly boxes when heading off for Bonefish. And everyone ties them with subtle differences. This one, is not so subtle.

With that orange Arctic Fox wing, and Bead Chain eyes, rather than heavier dumbbells, on an Clouser Hook, it's a bit of a Frankenfly.

That said, it's a fly that the local Salmon down the coast also relish. No one told them it was a Bonefish pattern, and no one needs to tell them!

This just in : The BEST Arctic Fox we have ever come across, and now available in Australia. Perfect for a range of salmonflies, tube flies, lake flies and a range of saltwater patterns, not forgetting the importance this material plays in so many bonefish fly patterns.

Unlike previous options we've had available, these aren't thin rings with limited hair. Each Troutline Arctic Fox tail ring is about an inch thick, and loaded with select quality, beautifully dyed hair. There's 3 or 4 times the amount of hair per pack compared to other brands!
