RIP “Crusty Crabs Seafood”
2023-2023

We hardly knew ye. Despite the robot waiter and almost copyright infringing name, expensive shopping centre seafood never really took off. The final nail in the coffin was probably the new fish and chip shop in the food court that seem to be making the same quality of food for less than half the price.

What will crawl into Crusty Crabs’ limp lifeless shell? Is some decent Korean food too much to ask?

DEATHWATCH: Birdies Mini Golf & Sports Bar

The sign says it's due to debris from the construction of San Churro next door, but personally, I'm a bit suspicious that the already very quiet mini golf course and overpriced bar has now been closed for the 2nd weekend, and probably won't be open for their promoted Superbowl party!

Maybe they’re just taking a break, but Top Ryde City’s only sit-down Chinese option has been closed as far as recent memory goes. The bar is still stocked, but the fish tanks are empty which doesn’t sound good to me. I think the vultures are circling.

They say the brightest flame burns quickest, and Plan B burned out pretty quick. A lawsuit from In-N-Out in the States forced one of the most uninteresting and plain re-brands in memory. Combine that with another Covid lockdown, and you have another victim of the southern La Piazza curse.

R.I.P. DUMPLING DARLIN' (c.2020 - 2021)
Have you ever had a hankering for microwaved xiao long bao while shopping at TRC? No, not many have, and that is likely why Dumpling Darlin' couldn't make it through the latest lockdown.

This was the 2nd attempt at a dumpling eatery in this location and before that was a more popular sandwich store. According to the sign, Dumpling Darlin' will be survived by "Hey Malatang" some time in the near future.

DEATH WATCH: SHINGLE INN

Despite having the ideal cafe location in the centre with its option of indoor and outdoor seating, Shingle Inn has been thoroughly unpopular since it opened. Now, 2 weeks after lockdown has ended without any sign of re-opening, I think it's safe to say the pulse on this one is weak. We will stay beside Shingle Inn's bedside in their time of need, but it might be time to call the undertaker...

R.I.P. THE REJECT SHOP (c.2010 - October 2021)
Vale The Reject Shop, whose selection of discontinued snacks wasn't enough to see them through the latest lockdown.

Originally operating on LG1, The Reject Shop then moved to a temporary store in La Strada before joining Coles on L1.

The Reject Shop will be survived by Tongli Supermarket who will be occupying both The Reject Shop's co**se and the unpopular fresh seafood shop.
