Client Spotlight: Koby Bourke | Lil Psycho Lil Psycho Jnr Sprint Boat Race Team
Koby’s journey into jet sprint boat racing is one I’ve been able to witness from the very beginning. I’ve known Koby for a long time, watching him learn the craft of driving in the junior class & quickly develop his feel for the water.
I’ve also known his dad Grant through his long-standing role as Race Director of the AFJSA. So when Grant reached out in late 2023 to build an LS class engine for Koby’s next chapter, it was great to be part of the next stage of his racing journey.
Koby had a Stingray hull & a big step ahead of him. Moving out of juniors & into LS class. I built the engine, supplied the cradle & installed it in the boat. Grant & Koby then took their time getting everything right, with Danny Knappick from KMC Performance finishing the boat off to a great standard.
Koby hit the water for the first time in late 2024, learning the boat, the class & building confidence. Exactly what those early laps needed to be.
Fast forward to the 2025/2026 Australian season & the growth has been something to watch. He started the season well and just kept getting better. Pushing himself, developing his race craft & doing it largely on his own terms. Koby has absorbed every bit of information & applied it on each lap. That’s not something you can teach. That’s just the right kind of attitude & taking the steps to improve.
He finished the season 5th in LS class championship this season. At 17 (almost 18) years old. In his first full season. His future is very bright & we’re proud to play a part in helping the next generation find their feet in this sport.
Koby, you should be an incredibly proud young man. We can’t wait to see what comes next for you & your team.
