Naidoc Painting $250
Created for NAIDOC Week, this artwork celebrates unity, diversity, and the shared future of all people living on Aboriginal land.
At the centre of the painting is a gathering circle representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Positioned in the heart of Australia and placed over the Aboriginal Flag, it symbolises that Aboriginal people are the First Peoples of this land and remain at the centre of its story, identity, and future.
The central gathering circle is intentionally painted in the same style as the surrounding circles, representing the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nations that exist across the continent. Together, they reflect the strength, diversity, and ongoing connection of First Nations peoples to Country, culture, and community.
The vibrant colours surrounding Australia represent the many landscapes and waterways crossed when travelling throughout this Country. The blues symbolise the rivers, oceans, and waterways that sustain life, while the greens, reds, blacks, and earth tones reflect the diverse lands, environments, and Countries that make up this continent. Though the landscapes may change from place to place, they remain connected through the stories, cultures, and peoples who have cared for them for countless generations.
The surrounding gathering places, pathways, and waterways represent the many cultures, religions, backgrounds, and communities that now call Australia home. While people may come from different Nations, beliefs, traditions, and walks of life, this artwork reflects the idea that we can all live together with mutual respect on Aboriginal land. It is a celebration of diversity, understanding, and the coming together of people from all cultures while recognising and respecting the First Peoples of this Country.
"Many cultures, many beliefs, many stories. Living together on Aboriginal land."
