Sally Fisher this week sent a customer to me who was in a hurry to find an opal to be set as a pendant. After a talk and some explanation this was her choice opal. Going back to Sally she made this beautiful gold pendant which is just perfect for the opal and compliments it without taking away from its beauty. What do you think?

Ammonites
A 410 - 66 million year old fossil.
Ammonites or Ammonoidea are an extinct sea creature that is closely related to octopuses, squid and cuttlefish. They can be found all over the world and sometimes show these amazing flashes of color on their shell.

This is my attempt of recreating the look of these amazing creatures drawing on scientific drawings of how they might have looked like. For the eyes I have black obsidian, CZ's or opals but I haven't decided yet.

You can use it as a paper weight on your desk, give it a place of honor on your display shelf or wear it on a chain as a piece of jewelry, up to you :)

Fiery Manta Ray
This is another top example of Andamooka matrix that treated very well. Candice says it reminds her of a very colorful reef so making it into a manta ray seemed the perfect fit. I love it Candice, thanks a lot and we hope you all agree 😊

Andamooka matrix is precious opal in a porous host rock. It formed when silica rich solution 'seeped' into a porous rock, filling all the little pores and voids with colorful precious opal. This host rock is then 'carbon impregnated' by heat-treating it with sugar and acid to make the color more prominent and darken the usually cream colored matrix. Not all matrix treats well but if it does you can get some truly stunning results.

This time Candice and I decided to try something new and used treated Andamooka Matrix which Candice made into these super cute Jellyfish Earrings.

Andamooka matrix is precious opal in a porous host rock. It formed when silica rich solution 'seeped' into a porous rock, filling all the little pores and voids with colorful precious opal. This host rock is then 'carbon impregnated' by heat-treating it with sugar and acid to make the color more prominent and darken the usually cream colored matrix. Not all matrix treats well but if it does you can get some truly stunning results.

Vintage Desire

Who fancies a reimagined Vintage 18k Rose Gold Ring (Size J) with Diamonds and an absolutely stunning Crystal Opal from Lightning Ridge?

The design and craftmanship of this old ring was begging me to get pimped, so I swapped the old stone for this lovely Crystal Opal. Setting it on a black background made the colors pop and transformed the opal into something quite special.

It was very exciting but totally nerve wracking and tense to set an opal of this value and quality myself. The final result and beautiful appearance and look of this ring were worth it though.

The opal weighs 5.4 carats and the total weight of the ring is 30.3 carats or 6 grams. 18k Rose Gold. Diamonds
