We spend the first two weeks of December in California, and it was GREAT. No words will tell. But perhaps a few pictures might help.

A Steinway A2 got completely pulled apart and nearly put back together, keyboard and action work took place, TungSteel got put to the test again with great results, cats were cuddled, hamburgers eaten, and it was super cold!!

What an amazing adventure with Erwin, Jacob Erwin, Dale Erwin, Erwin thank you so much for all your hospitality kindness and support 🙏 special people ❤️

Of the importance of servicing your piano

Your piano isn’t just an instrument; it’s a long-term investment. Proper maintenance is essential to preserve its value and ensure it continues to deliver exceptional sound for years to come.
One important aspect of maintenance is voicing.

Voicing is a specialized technique that involves adjusting the density of the felt on the hammerheads, a delicate process that directly impacts the piano’s tone. Over time, hammerheads can harden unevenly due to use and environmental factors. A certified technician can skilfully restore the evenness and richness of the sound by pricking the felt with a three-needled tool.

In addition to trusting your piano to an officially qualified technician, we recommend to
🎵 Tune your piano at least twice a year
🎵 Schedule an annual action and voicing check
Depending on how often you use your beloved piano, you may need to consult your technician more frequently.

Whether it’s a cherished family heirloom or a performer’s best friend, regular care ensures your piano delivers its best performance for years to come.

Follow-Up from New Zealand!

Our recent trip to New Zealand was time well spent, filled with hands-on work and some incredible sights! Here’s a look at a few highlights from the visit:

📸 Before & after shots showcasing: 🔹 Drilling the pinblock 🔹 Frame spraying 🔹 New tuning pins and strings 🔹 Having a blast... with the bead blaster 🔹 Pinblock inserts and bass bridge capping

Plus, we couldn’t resist visiting Christchurch’s iconic Cardboard Cathedral and lucky enough to step inside the Town Hall! Thanks DSpianos

Thanks for joining the journey.
See ewe next time! 🐑

Back to Australia now!

This is a long-overdue post about my visit to Canada and the awesome time at Pianos with Verhnjak and Verhnjak.

Awesome workshop—full of pianos and work to be done. The pictures don't do it justice.

Here, Rod rebuilds pianos all year round, with a lot of Steinways, but not only: pinblocks, bridge caps, actions, keyboards, the occasional soundboard, and refinishing. Spencer is working full-time in the shop as a refinisher, with a fully equipped spray booth and the whole shebang! Way to go, guys—this makes for a great turnaround! Brandon is proving to be the keen heir apparent, and over the years, has learned a lot from his dad, working very hard and traditionally for terrific results! What a treat to be shown so much…

Thank you very much for your generosity and willingness to share 🙏 Looking forward to visiting again sometime!
