We read The Snail and the Whale for the hundredth time this week. ๐๐
So we turned it into a wax stick activity โ and honestly? Best 20 minutes of our day.
Draw your favourite characters on paper. Let the kids trace and recreate them with wax sticks.
Thatโs it. No prep. No mess. No โIโm bored.โ
Just little hands busy creating, imaginations going, and a story they already love coming to life in a completely new way. ๐
This kind of play quietly builds:
โ๏ธ Fine motor skills and pencil grip
๐จ Creativity and open-ended thinking
๐ Connection to books and storytelling
๐๏ธ Hand strength for writing
Try it with any Julia Donaldson book โ Room on the Broom, Zog, Monkey Puzzle. The characters are simple enough for little hands to recreate and recognisable enough to keep them engaged for ages.
