Columbia Records approached Miles Davis in 1955 and offered to buy out his existing contract and put him on the label if he could put a regular band together. Davis recruited John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and "Philly" Joe Jones in a stellar line-up. The agreement required Davis to fulfil his current requirements before Columbia could release any new material. The band was cooking and in no time they recorded enough material to finalise the contractual obligations. One of the first albums that resulted from these sessions is the amazing "Miles: The New Miles Davis Quintet" originally released in 1956. An essential addition to any great Jazz collection. We will have this copy in our crates at The Rocks Record Rummage on Sunday 13 September 🤩
