𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁: the same weight doesn’t always equal the same amount of food.
Dehydrating beef liver removes much of its water, so 𝟮𝟲𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟴𝟬𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿. That’s why it’s easy to underestimate how much liver your dog is getting if you compare raw, dehydrated and even freeze dried weights.
Liver is nutrient-rich, but regularly feeding too much can unbalance a dog’s diet. Excess vitamin A over time can cause health problems, and some dogs are more vulnerable to copper building up in the liver. A large serving of rich organ meat can also upset their stomach.
A commonly used raw-feeding guideline is to keep liver to around 5% of the overall diet—but the right amount depends on the whole diet and your dog. Treats count too, so check with your vet about suitable portions.
