After a couple of big days in the kitchen, Merlin now has 100 homemade meals ready to go! 🙌

All of the raw meat was sourced from World 4 Pets, whose raw range is now 100% sourced from the human supply chain.

The fruit and vegetable mix was slow cooked on low before being blended with chia seeds, h**p seeds and ground linseeds, while the 24-hour chicken bone broth was made from scratch in the slow cooker using chicken drumsticks.

✨ Behind the scenes of a little shelf restock! ✨

One thing I always make sure to do when restocking is rotate our stock, with the oldest products at the front and the newest tucked neatly behind. It's a small detail, but one that's stuck with me throughout my 20+ years in retail. It's all part of making sure our customers receive the freshest products possible. 🐾

If someone told me a few years ago that I'd be genuinely excited to receive a box full of p**p in the mail... I probably would've questioned their sanity. 😂💩

But here we are.

As part of our brand new Sniff Zone project, I put the call out for some seriously smelly donations... and one of our amazing ambassadors delivered! Express post, no less. 📦🤣

Inside the parcel was:
🐴 Horse p**p
🐐 Goat p**p
🐹 Guinea pig p**p
🐔 Chicken p**p
🐍 Snake skin
🐑 Sheep's wool

Why? Because dogs experience the world through their noses, not just their eyes. New and interesting scents encourage natural sniffing behaviours, provide mental enrichment, and let dogs explore the world in a way that's meaningful to them.

The plan is to place small amounts of these scents into spring-loaded tea strainers and suspend them inside heavy pots with holes, allowing dogs to safely investigate all the fascinating smells without getting into the source material.

It's probably the strangest parcel I've ever been excited to open... but Merlin certainly approves. 😂🐾

Who else has random things taking up valuable freezer space? 🙋‍♀️

I had a bag of chicken drumsticks that had been sitting in my freezer for ages, so to free up some space, I turned them into 24-hour slow-cooked chicken bone broth. 🍗✨

Despite how the start of this reel looks... trust the process! 😂

Making bone broth is honestly one of the easiest things you can do at home. All you need is:
🐾 Chicken bones (frames, wings, drumsticks etc.)
🐾 Water (enough to cover them)
🐾 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Pop everything into a slow cooker and let it cook low and slow for 12-24 hours. I chose 24 hours because my drumsticks were quite meaty.

Once it's finished:
✔️ Strain the broth through a sieve.
✔️ Discard all cooked bones (never feed cooked bones to dogs).
✔️ Any boneless meat can be fed if you're confident there are no bone fragments. I chose to discard most of mine because the softened bones had broken down throughout the meat.
✔️ Refrigerate or freeze the broth until the fat rises to the top, then simply scrape it off.

And what's left? Liquid Gold. 💛🐓

Bone broth can be a great way to add moisture, flavour and variety to your dog's meals. I love pouring a little over Merlin's raw food or freezing it into enrichment toys and lick mats.
