t’s been a hive of activity these past few months—swarm catching, managing our apiaries, extracting huge quantities of delicious honey, and setting up a brand-new site in Curl Curl! 🌿🐝 If all goes well, we’ll have fresh honey from there next Spring!

Another swarm catch last weekend! Hanging out in a mango tree. A puff of smoke to help calm the bees, although normally swarms are very placid 🐝🐝, gentle snip of the branch and into a bucket then left close by so the rest followed the queen and then I transferred into a hive box after dusk.
This was one of my hives that has already swarmed once this season. Bees had restocked on queen cells including 2 that I unexpectantly hatched out so I left one in the original box and embarked upon a split of my other hive. I put the other virgin queen in the split hive with 2x brood frames, honey & pollen. Now we wait and see! 🐝
