Planning to shop at Paddy’s Markets at Flemington? Here’s some of my tips to help make it a brilliant day:

TIMING: check out the opening times for Paddy’s Markets from Friday to Sunday. On Saturdays, I much prefer to be here at 5am before the crowds as it does get busy from 7am
CASH: cash is king at the Markets. It’s rare to find a vendor who has EFTPOS, so bring cash. It’s also beneficial if you’re looking for a great buy. For our convenience, there’s a number of ATMs located in and around the D shed (main Market building)
TROLLEY HIRE: if you’re like me and expect to purchase a lot of produce but can’t be bothered lugging boxes to and from the car, trolley hire is available in the market
PARKING: access into the Markets is $2 with a vehicle during operating hours. There are two undercover multistorey parking with lift access as well as ground level parking
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: easiest way to get to the Markets with public transport is by train hopping off at Flemington Station and it’s 3-7mins walk. There are a number of buses that also stop at Flemington Station or along Parramatta Road

Broccoli, cauliflower and kale are all in peak season right now, which means Paddy's Haymarket has them at rock-bottom prices. Stock up, cook up, and watch your grocery bill shrink (it's Book Week, so we're calling that a happy ending).

Have you ever wondered where all the excellent produce available at Paddy’s Markets at Flemington on Fridays and Saturdays get them from?
Well, the produce that you get to purchase and enjoy are derived from the wholesalers at Sydney Markets by the traders from Paddy’s Markets at Flemington.

Traders like Joe who sell at Paddy’s Markets at Flemington head every Friday morning before dawn to negotiate and purchase all his goods from wholesalers at Sydney Markets. These goods are then sold at his stall that he’s had for 46 years! What a legend! I have been buying truss cherry tomatoes as well as cherries when in season from Joe at his corner stand opposite the seafood section for over a decade. (Door 9 Fridays & Saturdays)

I was amazed at the incredible variety of produce that the wholesalers at Sydney Markets had to offer. Even more a singular type of fruit or vegetable, there was often a variety of that particular item. For example, the chestnut king, Potty boggled my mind with the number of varieties of chestnuts he sells that’s are locally grown. Have you ever heard of some of the varieties he’s mentioned?

The relationship between growers/wholesalers and Paddy's traders goes a long way back. It is through this relationship, we as the customers are privileged to be able to purchase some of the remarkably freshest and best priced produce available.

I am in awe of what happens behind the scenes at these both these Markets and have a great deal of respect for traders and wholesalers like Joe and Potty respectively. Their dedication and hard work in selling wonderful produce whilst imparting their knowledge on the produce is truly admirable - even more with their cheeky and generous personalities.

Fresh, affordable produce is calling your name think juicy strawberries, creamy avos and citrus galore, straight from the Sydney Markets floor. If you didn't know, Paddy's Haymarket produce section opens earlier from 8am, Wed–Sun.
