Difficult decision. Unfortunately life and such has meant that I have to make the decision to stop production of Keels and Rudders for the present. For those the had "orders" with me, I can only apologise for the inconvenience caused.

I started this journey to solve a problem for myself and it very quickly spiralled into far more than I had anticipated and with life/work something had to give. And for the time being this is it for me.

I do hope to return later in the year with a better process and system in place to produce keels and rudders to continue to provide them locally.

Again, for those I have inconvenienced / disappointed I am sorry, I never expected the demand that came and I was under prepared to meet it.

Thanks for your understanding.

Peter

The first print of the Alioth V4 went out for a run yesterday. This version continues the evolution of a design as lessons are learned and changes made. Remains very simple to assemble and the lovely lines remain .

No earth shattering performance up lift but certainly no bad habits introduced as far as i can see. Keel/Rudder/Winch tray/Rudder Servo/Rigs transferred directly across from my V3 which is awesome! I did have some failures of a new foredeck part I rushed a little but that’s on me and easy to fix.

This hull I assembled without using M3.5 eyebolts which means 6 less holes in the hull and a few $ saved. These parts are pretty simple and are the starting point I hope for more tinkering in the future! These parts are affixed to the hull using Bob Smith Industries Med viscosity CA as is the rest of the hull. This remains my go to adhesive assembling boats and in 4 years using it I’ve never had and structural failures - I did rip one small fair lead off when i had main sheet wrapped some where it wouldn’t have been and winch pulled hard in 😎. Better to rip that bit off than worse damage though 😉. Glued it back on by the water and went back to racing!

Print it, Assemble it, Take it out and play with it 😀.

Printer is running 24x7 filling upgrade orders - is your order in the production list?

We are off to the races with the V4 Alioth now available for order :).

We have a special "upgrade" price point for all our existing customers for the next 30 days! So please reach out if you are ready to upgrade and well put you in line for a shiny new Alioth V4 Kit.

Reminder, with this update all your existing Keels/Rudders/Electronics/Rigs "should" be a simple lift and shft level of effort onto the new hull.

We'll have some new version updates in the coming days too so stay tuned.

Well, here we are again. We’re back after taking an extended break overthinking summer. Well a break from making boats and spending time rebuilding uber printer 😎.

We are all eagerly awaiting the release of the V4 Alioth so orders have been a little thin for the last couple of months 😉. We’ll be ready to go with upgrades when the time comes. The really good news is that Keel/Rudder/Rig/Electronics are all going to transfer over from the V3 so upgrade costs and shift to new hull will be fairly manageable!

The change to the update schema for the Alioth is significantly lighter weight than a glass boat and IMHO is returning us to the build it at home and go have fun model 😀.

I have made some new parts i will be including in kits going forward that replace the need for M3.5 eye bolts. So a little saving in $ but mostly it will mean 6 less holes to drill in the hull! I’ve been testing these for the last several months in some Solid B / C breezes and some ugly sea states (Thanks to the east coast lows) successfully. I need to make a couple of adjustments to the designs based on the testing, but overall they’ve been very successful.

And here’s another shout out to the ease of replacement of 3DP hulls. Last week at my local club I unfortunately was on the receiving end of a Port/Stbd bingle at the far away top mark. 🤷‍♂️ accidents happen and it was a full on T Bone at speed which did crack S3, filled me up with water and ended my day early. Sad, but I have a replacement hull ready to go and will be check measured and have me back sailing in a week.

Are 3DP IOMs mor fragile than glass? Debatable. Can they be repaired by replacement quickly and at a low cost. Yep 😉.

Print it, put it together and take it out and play with it!

Been a little quiet post NSW State Championships, but got back to Club Championship today in a nice B rig breeze. Had a mixed bag of luck though.

State Championships was good, managed to meet Glen Fitzgerald and a few others from the QLD & NSW IOM sailors fresh off the worlds in Gladstone.

But the good news is that my new personal boat is about to get the final fitout to replace my well worn trial boat. It’s been a fabulous boat for 2 years and is showing the scars of a lot of sailing .

Fresh back from assembly today 😀

Had the opportunity yesterday to slide down to the Illawarra and sail with the guys at Koonawarra Bay Sailing Club. Great venue and a solid top B/C rig NE breeze had a lot of exciting sailing.

Also had the chance to be on the water with 4 other Alioth’s!

3DP IOMs are here and here to stay. Looking for a cost effective way to join IOM sailing? Let us know and we’d be glad to help!

Well, the worlds are done and was a lot of fun to watch and i learnt quite a bit from watching.

Two more kits done, one going to new home via our assembly and finally a replacement for my personal boat (I started that in Jan 24 🙂 ).
