Reinforcing steel rarely leaves the yard as just a straight bar.

Bars can be cut and bent to suit the reinforcement detailing for a project — with dimensions, angles and bends needing to match the specified requirements.

For reinforcement suppliers, that means the accuracy of the fabrication matters.

Australian reinforcement guidance requires cut-and-bent reinforcing steel to meet applicable tolerances under AS/NZS 4671 and AS 3600, while the Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia also notes that factory bending is carried out using purpose-built equipment to achieve consistent bend angles and specified bend diameters.

Because when the steel gets to site, it needs to be the steel that was detailed.
