This bag was made by Aling Belen who has been weaving for 28 years. She has supported her family through weaving since starting and hopes to pass the skill on to the next generation.

Swipe to the last pic to see how it's done!

I love connecting and exchanging stories with our weavers and farmers. I am reminded to slow down and live mindfully. 💙

'Masinsin' in Taglog means thorough, deep, or intense. It is also used to describe weaving as being tightly knit or compact.

Masinsin is the best word to describe this bag - carefully and slowly made with seamless macramé knots. ➰

Look! It's the Abaca Festival in Catanduanes Bicol Region, the Abaca capital of the Philippines!

The abaca plant has always been a source of pride and progress for the people of Catanduanes. The festival celebrates the abaca farmers who till the land and produce world-class abaca fibres, and artisans who produce such beautiful products (like our uli bags hehe).

The last picture is an abaca stripping contest 😲 so cool!

Meet Kuya Vic and Ate Ange from Albay, Bicol!

Kuya Vic comes from a family of weavers. He learned to weave at a young age by watching his parents and eventually picking up the craft himself. Abaca handicrafts have been the cornerstone of their livelihood for as long as he can remember.

His wife, Ange, handles the marketing of the handicrafts. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in education in June and welcomed their first child just a few days ago!

When not at the loom, Kuya Vic enjoys playing basketball. His go-to comfort food is chicken adobo.

Have you seen our cute 🥟dumpling bags🥟 made by Kuya Vic?

These abaca tote bags are slowly and thoughtfully made using a knotting technique called macramé.

A very sturdy bag you can use for the beach or groceries! I use it for my climbing shoes, keeps them breezy and fresh.

Abaca or Manila h**p is a type of banana plant native to the Philippine Islands.

The abaca fibre is the strongest natural plant fibre in the world. It is also renewable, biodegradable, sustainable, and resistant to moisture and saltwater.

Our abaca handicrafts come from Albay province in Bicol, my mum's hometown. Some items from this batch were made in evacuation centres, supporting weavers while in temporary shelters due to the heightened activity of Mayon Volcano. 🌋
