CARA&CO CONCEPT STORE

“ONE OF THE BEST BOUTIQUES IN THE WORLD”, The Wall Street Journal about Cara&Co Moscow

Cara&Co cannot be l

abeled. It´s neither a boutique, nor a shop, nor a department store. But it combines these three elements into a concept store that contains intellectual fashion, art, high-tech, food and music in a truly inspiring environment. Everything that you see in the store is exclusive and can't be found anywhere else in Australia. HISTORY
In 2007 Australian Company opened the first ever concept store in Russia, in the grounds of the Centre of contemporary art – and Cara&Co completed the European circuit, by adding Moscow to the fashion lover´s itinerary. In August 2011 the world famous Cara&Co opened its doors in Sydney – in Westfield Pitt Street Shopping Town – in the heart of Sydney’s shopping mecca. Cara&Co has been built on a firm philosophy of researching and buying the most cutting edge selections, which reflect the very latest directions from around the world. Everything that can be found in Cara&Co is exclusive for Australia, which makes the experience at Cara&Co so unique. PHILOSOPHY - NO LOGOS FASHION ONLY
The main motto behind the store is “No Logos Fashion Only”. Cara&Co showcases intellectual fashion at a luxe level, producing its own aesthetic version of “discreet luxury”. We are for the people who don’t need any logo in order to express their personality. In addition to the international fashion, the store offers vintage pieces, selective perfumery, high-jewelry, and a range of gadgets all of which are hand picked with a keen eye for originality and function. INTERIOR
The Concept store itself is like a museum where every piece of interior may be treated as an exhibit. The interior of Cara&Co is a piece of subtle, considered eclecticism. RESTAURANT
And at night when it’s closing time for the store, it begins to live another life – the transparent metal curtain drops down to shade partly the store content and leave only a tunnel through the length of the store, which leads to the restaurant, open from midday till midnight. Subtle, theatre lighting turns up to create an intriguing atmosphere and invite gourmands to try sophisticated Flemish cuisine. In the midst of winter in Sydney I discovered that David Jones sells the only one limoncello produced in South Australia. Thanks God the lemons are always a plenty here whatever the season is outside
of our windows. is tomorrow.

The scar on my neck will get me a role in the future Kings’s movies, there is a plan to lose another 7 kilos after the first 13 already lost. Still deciding on the colour of the future hair. Spring is in the air. In the colours of the bags and Paddington doors. My life. To be continued.

I come from the culture of Soviet chocolates which were not bad to tell you the truth. One day I will dedicate an Instagram to those chocolates, especially to the Bird’s Milk variety. When first time in Antwerp, my daughter and I tried hot chocolate in one of those nothing to remember type of cafes. I was hooked. I thought, Antwerp, was part of heaven and I lived in heaven too. Belgium has a special place among chocolate aficionados and is the first European country to start producing it commercially. Due to the Spanish Habsburg Empire, due to the occupation of Congo, due to the Rotterdam securing the import of cocoa beans from Western Africa and South and Central America, Belgium became the Queen of chocolate production in the world. I won’t go into the EU regulations which tried to level the UK chocolate and the Belgian chocolate. In short, Belgium chocolate has much higher cocoa content and is above the EU Mark. Maybe Belgium will vote for Bexit because of this). From the top left clockwise 1)Pierre Marcolini is to chocolate as Chanel is to fashion. He is an innovator and at the same time a traditionalist. He is the first in the world haute chocolatier. Nestle invested in Marcolini. He bought them out in 4 years later. With 30 shops around the world, Marcolini’s production is still in Sablon, the most luxurious part of Brussels. 2) Jean Galler was sixteen when he realised that chocolate was his passion. He produces mostly chocolate bars which look similar to gold nuggets. Since 1994, Galler holds the title of “Royal Warrant Holder of the Court of Belgium”. 3) who would have known that one of the finest Belgian chocolatiers is now living in Sydney? Thanks to my neighbour , I know, but only from last Wednesday. The owner and head chocolatier Jan ter Heerdt is from Antwerp. His father started Belle Fleur in 1985 in Sydney. They have two shops in Sydney, one in Rozelle, another one in Perersham, where the factory is. The chocolate is so good, it saves you the trip to Belgium. It is my piece of paradise in Sydney. 4) Chocolatier Spegelaere is described by connoisseurs as the best kept secret not known to tourists. It’s simply the best! Thank you Belgium

This is the first in my series of comparisons. Please accept that I might be the one becoming older, and I might be looking back into the past as equally as I do towards the future. At the same time, I will never be the one exclaiming: "O tempora, o mores!" every time I see or encounter anything new. But...My favourite designers started to disappoint me. Pierre Hardy, the one who has been designing fine jewellery for Hermes since 2001 and who worked on men's and women's collections for BALENCIAGA in 2001-2013, is my favourite designer of bags. The one, in the upper left corner, is my favourite crossover messenger bag which now you can only buy preloved. They don't exist anymore. They were made from the softest suede with the smoothest leather trimmings. They weighed nothing, they had the most beautiful magnetic lock, they were IT bags of 2006-2010. Not anymore. The IT bag now is the one in the upper right corner - the 3D cube canvas bag with leather trimmings. The original and the best! As Goyard, Gucci, Louis Vuitton never thought about those(. Ugh...Pauric Sweeney, one of the not too many Irish designers worked with Raf Simons, with Jill Sander... He got his highest acclaim for inventing those metallic or exotic skin bags in 2008. At that stage, he was compared to Tom Ford for his impeccable eye for design and detail. The bag came in many shapes, many types of leather, skins and colours. The main feature was those military belts like leather trimmings. They created a very elegant contrast to the beautiful leathers used for the bags. Not anymore. The one in the bottom right is one of the newcomers. No more luxury finishings, just a bag. You can buy it from anywhere. I do t believe it is made in Italy anymore? What drives those designers towards the change? The bottom line, of course. The bottom line might force them to hit rock bottom. God forbid. I hope they will survive by coming back to their roots.

When my friends took me to Jamie Oliver Italian in Pitt Street, Sydney, on the 16th of April this year, I was excited beyond belief. Always wanted to go there. Well, the reality squashed all of my expectations. The interior was industrial with the feel of early noughties. Who did not do industrial then? The tables and the chairs were squashed together so much, we felt we were part of a big Indian family sitting next to us. But the food is the main topic is not it? Who cares about the tables if the food is great? That's where everything went topsy turvy for us. Entree on a wooden board with beetroot smoked salmon and mussels and buffalo mozzarella and mussels looked excellent. The mussels became my undoing. I was in bed afterwards with the horrible food poisoning. Grilled salmon served with braised puy (whatever the hell it means) lentils was so salty it could be used for people with low blood pressure any time of the day. But the winner was risotto bianco (the simplest variety). It's first version came as kasha (typical Russian watery rice porridge, where rice is over boiled for the children consumption). We sent it back. What we got back was much more edible. The verdict: Starbucks closed its doors in Australia, because every small place in Australia makes an excellent coffee. We are only behind Italy in this contest. The same goes for the Italian food. We have more than 1.5 million of Italians living in a country with the population of 24 million. Virtually every household has its own nonna, who cooks much better than Jamie Oliver. I reckon the place(places around Australia) will fail as they bring nothing new and excellent for our culinary landscape. )

From our Instagram Blogettes:
Парадное or lobby of the building says a lot about the people who live there. Not in St Petersburg. The old lobbies say a lot about the people who used to live there before the revolution. The great Red Thunder broke all of the class demarcation lines, but nevertheless, back to St Petersburg, back to history. The entry halls of those buildings represent an architectural style called Russian Modern. It was the Russian version of art nouveau. From the top clockwise:1) Stanovoy boarding house. The staircase is called peacock staircase. You can see peacock tails as part of the cast iron balustrade. 2)the first lift ever installed in St Petersburg in 1890, in one of the boarding houses belonging to the merchant dynasty of Eliseevs. 3)This entry hall used to belong to the insurance company Rossiya. Rebuilt by the architect Benua. One of the famous movies "Собачье Сердце", The Dog's Heart, based on Bulgakov's novel was filmed there. 4) Rotonda building on Gorokhovaya Street was used for the secret meetings of the Masonic society. The secret hall was used for Masonic conversions. There are other 5 Rotonda buildings in St Petersburg, but this one is the most famous. The legend says that Grigory Rasputin lived there for some time, the same legend says there is a special step on the stair where you can see the shadow of a non-existing column. And if you are lucky you can get your wish come true when you spend the night in the basement of the building, but you never know whether your wish will be dictated by a Satan himself...

From Our Instagram Blogettes:
Communal flats (kommunalkas) of Russia are about to go down in history as a necessary step to resolve a housing crisis for the working people starting from the times of the Revolution. They were a temporary measure, but as we say "Nothing is more permanent than the temporary." Generations of people were born, and generations of people died there. Each family occupied a room in a flat with 5-7 bedrooms. Most of the kommunalki date back to the end of the 19th century. The beauty and the architectural features could still be seen in those St Petersburg flats. In a way the poorest people who had nowhere to move kept the beauty of St Petersburg architecture alive. My town was completely bombed during the war, and we did not have those communal flats, but the romanticism of the communal life was a reflection of the togetherness life of the people of the USSR. Just looking back.

From our Instagram Project:
Father's Day is half a year away, but if my father was alive and if he loved his drink and if I had an unlimited amount of money, I would have bought for him one of those three bottles. The choice is yours. From top right clockwise 1) the most expensive bottle of vodka in the world called Russo-Baltique vodka. It costs 1.3 million dollars. The bottle is dedicated to the rally of the cars driving directly from the Russo-Baltique factory in Riga to Monaco. The rally happened in 1911. Participants of the rally drove cabriolets, the only comfort in the middle of winter for them was the flask (many flasks) of the Russian vodka. Drink driving was not a problem in 1911. Guess what? The flask is a replica of exactly the same radiator guard used in the car in 1911. The flask top is made from yellow and white gold with the Russian imperial eagle-encrusted with the diamonds. That explains the price. 2) The most expensive bottle of whisky is produced by the Luxury Beverage Company of the United Kingdom. The shiny bottle flaunts more than 8500 diamonds and almost 300 rubies to make up the name on the bottle. Inside, the Isabella's Islay Whisky is a single malt. The cost of the bottle is 6 million dollars. 3) Just days after Isabella's Islay was announced as the most expensive luxury beverage in the world, the Liverpool-based Stuart Hughes, and Italian distillery Antica Distilleria Russo teamed up and introduced the public to D'Amalfi Limoncello Supreme at a whopping price of 44 million dollars. The bottle boasts three single cut flawless diamonds totalling 13 carats as well as one of the world's rarest diamonds, a huge single-cut 18.5-carat diamond. The liqueur is a "normal" limoncello. Just don't throw the bottle after you finish it! Should we really wait till the Father's Day?
